Florida Attorney John Morgan Announces Plans to Launch New Political Party
Independent Political Report ^ | March 5, 2025 | Jordan Willow Evans

Personal injury lawyer and former major Democratic donor John Morgan announced plans last week to create a new political party, stating on social media that he was forming a party for those “stuck in the middle.”

“I am forming a new political party for those of us stuck in the middle,” Morgan posted on X. “Our two party system is broken due to Gerrymandering and divisive issues… both sides. No labels is not an option. Everyone wants a team or tribe.”

Morgan, a Florida-based personal injury attorney, is best known as the founder of Morgan & Morgan, which describes itself as “America’s Largest Personal Injury Law Firm.” A longtime Democratic donor, Morgan contributed heavily to candidates associated with the party before announcing in 2017 that he was leaving the party to register as an independent, citing disillusionment with the state of American politics. However, despite leaving, he continued to support some Democratic candidates as recently as the 2020 election.

In a follow-up to his original post, Morgan stated that while he supports certain positions from both the Republican and Democratic parties, he believes modern politics has become a “bloodsport” where “compromise is a dirty word and civility has been abandoned.” He argued that the country has not been truly unified since the aftermath of 9/11.

“I didn’t vote for Trump but I’m pulling like hell for Trump. I didn’t vote for Kamala either btw. It’s time for a third choice,” Morgan added. “If the choice is only vanilla or chocolate… you never get to eat strawberry.”

While Morgan did not reveal the name of his new party or outline specific policy positions, he has previously discussed forming a political party in connection with a potential 2026 gubernatorial bid, as well as shared his views on certain topics in relation to such a campaign.

In a December interview with Politico, Morgan stated that if he were to run for governor of Florida, he would do so under a new party called the “Capitalist Party.” He described his political stance as supporting the legalization of marijuana and prostitution—while still advocating crackdowns on cartels, traffickers, and “pimps”—and opposing monopolies. However, he also distanced himself from certain progressive positions, including opposing transgender student athletes competing in sports that align with their gender identity.

“I think I know what people want,” Morgan said at the time. “And I think what people want is what I want.”

He is trying to be a spoiler and spilt votes to support the democrats, absolutely not to be trusted.

I have now doubt he will be funded by liberal just for that purpose.

He might meet some measure of success if he called it the "Trump Party," the "Neo-Tea Party," or the "Anti-Democrat Party."

It’s not MAGA or Conservative Voters that need to be weary of John Morgan, it’s what is left of the Democratic Party in Florida.

DeSantis is term limited out in 2026, leaving the job wide open, Byron Donalds endorsed by Trump has already declared, Casey DeSantis is rumored to be joining the race, the worry among Republicans is a bitter nasty primary fight that splits the party and allows a Democrat to become governor for the first time in 32 years in Florida, not John Morgan.

John Morgan will splinter the Democratic Party and assuming the Republicans don’t destroy themselves, whoever wins the Republican Primary will have a huge advantage and likely win in 2026, it could also have an effect on the Congressional and State Legislature races in Florida.

This has failed every time it has been tried in modern history (basically since the Whig party dissolved). Ask John Anderson, 1980, Ross Perot, 1992, Third Way, Forward Party, RFK, 2024. Just an ego play by a guy who can’t win the Dem nomination.

And of course nobody on FR would trust a plaintiff’s trial lawyer - they are the biggest funders of the Rats, even more $$$ than Hollywood stars.

John Morgan is quite wealthy due to his law firm, with an idiosyncratic and self-centered view of politics. Morgan’s organizational talents are considerable as to his law firm, but that will not extend to forming and guiding a new political party. I see him suffering an embarrassing face plant.

"Everyone wants a team or tribe."

Depending on how much money he is willing to spend. either another inconsequential third party like Wallace's American Independent Party, or a one time spoiler like Ross Perot's Reform Party. I'd bet on the former.

Wallace won five states, making his AIP the most successful third party of the past 112 years (1913 to 1925)

Teddy Rooseveldt’s 1912 Bull Moose run was more successful.

He's a Rat lawyer with a megapractice. Likes to abolish anti-weed laws too, wants to legalize it everywhere. He may draw one-tenth of one percent of the Libertine vote.

Overall this is good; he will split the Rat vote.

If this comes of anything.
