WASHINGTON (AP) — President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Ukraine won’t enter peace talks with Russia until it has security guarantees against another offensive. Zelenskyy added Friday’s contentious spat with President Donald Trump was “not good for both sides.” But Zelenskyy said that Trump — who insists Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to end the three-year grinding war — needs to understand that Ukraine can’t change attitudes toward Russia on a dime.

Ukraine never had any nukes. They never had any operational control over Soviet nukes based on their territory. Second of all, a memo from Bill Clinton does not obligate United States to go to war with Russia. Third of all we agreed tonight interfere in Ukraine. But we overthrew the government there in Kiev. And last but not least, when Victoria Nuland and the CIA overthrew the Ukrainian government in Kiev, old Ukraine ended as a country. We had no agreements or defense pacts with the new ruling Ukrainian junta.

Mr President, it’s a trap. If you put troops on the ground, ur screwed. If you don’t, Russia rolls all the way up to the polish border and NATO jumps in.

Bring Billy Jeff Clinton to the White House so he can make the same deal as before. Ukraine gave up their nukes with the Clinton promise of ‘protection.’. Riiiiiight. That worked out great.

Perhaps Z can get in with the Clinton Global $$$fund$$$.

When they gave up their nukes after the fall of the USSR didn’t the US and Russia vow to protect them if needed? That didn’t work out too good for Ukraine did it? Show me where I’m wrong.

Like it’s our job to provide security for Ukraine? I feel so sad for the people there being saddled with such corrupt politicians.

Someone is telling him that even though the House bill had no money for him, and Reconciliation can’t change that in the Senate, they can still get money to him in the 10s of billions via a Supplemental.

And that same someone is saying a Trump veto can be overriden.

2/3 of the Senate is 66. 47 Dems so 19 GOP Senators would have to risk their next primary. 20 GOP Senators are up for re-election in 2026. I would say odds are low 19 will backstab Trump.

If you don’t, Russia rolls all the way up to the polish border and NATO jumps in.

Nonsense.

If Ukraine conceded the annexed territory and agrees to remain neutral, as its Constitution specifies, the Russians have no interest what is left of Ukraine.

Ukraine agreed, in its Constitution, to be politically neutral.

Ukraine obviously wasn't when the illegal coup in 2014 installed a government hostile both Moscow and the ethnic Russian population in Ukraine.

What he is being offered is a time out until Putin can rearm and finish the job. What he has got right now is a Russian army on horseback where life expectency is measured in days. Russia can advance a few meters on a good day at an unbelievably high cost. Nearly all the land they have taken they took in the first couple weeks of the war. Those were the salad days when Russia tens of thousands of tanks and APCs and the Wagner Group. All that stuff has been lost todrones and political infighting. Can Ukraine fight on without America? That might be the wrong question. Can they get a better or worse deal if they do is the one they are likely looking at and the answer is they cannot get a worse deal. Will the EU pick up the slack if they do fight on? Hard to say but defense in the age of drones is a lot cheaper than offence and time might be more on Ukraine’s side than Russia’s.

The only guarantee this moron gets is the certain guarantee that if Trump pulls the plug , his defeated country is going to be over run by Russia - which our beloved Gen Lloyd Austin predicted that Russia could do in two weeks if Putin got serious.

The Ukraine is defeated and has been for 18 months and Zelensky simply refuses to acknowledge the fact.

Zelensky is being advised and encouraged by EU leaders who pushed the proxy war are desperate to force a confrontation with Trump so they can blame Trump for the melt down in Ukraine and possibly have the Democrats impeach Trump in two years.

This is one thorny problem that the Obama/Biden Administration stuck Trump with.

If a peace could be negotiated on practical and realistic terms, Russia would be happy with the results. But not so the Ukrainians who would continue to attack. Even if Russia takes territory up to the Dnieper, they’ll keep on and on.

Sadly, the only way this thing will truly end is either by allowing the Russians to totally defeat the Ukrainians (and utterly decimate their military) or by installing a humongous well-armed and very serious neutral peacekeeping force (numbering in the hundreds of thousands) between them to deter the Ukrainians. The latter is practically impossible, not to mention outrageously expensive. So what are we left with?

I so wish it could be otherwise, but it is what it is.

Here is the rub... the whole war was over Ukraine possibly joining NATO... which is just... a security guarantee!

There is no effective difference between Ukraine having a security guarantee from NATO and them having it from us! Since we are the only ones that actually matter in NATO.
