Keir Starmer heads to Washington with UK defense spending pledge to help sway Trump over Ukraine

ABOARD THE PRIME MINISTER’S PLANE (AP) — U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer flew to Washington on Wednesday after announcing a big increase in the British defense budget, an investment that he hopes will help persuade U.S. President Donald Trump to maintain support for Ukraine as Washington pushes to end the war.

Though Starmer is touting the trans-Atlantic “special relationship” that has endured since World War II, he faces an uncertain reception. Trump has upended decades of U.S. foreign policy during his first weeks in office.

Ukraine and its European allies are scrambling to respond after the Trump administration engaged directly with Moscow on ending the war in Ukraine. Starmer’s visit to the White House on Thursday is part of European efforts — following a trip to Washington by French President Emmanuel Macron earlier this week — to ensure Kyiv gets a voice in negotiations, and that the U.S. still backs Europe in dealing with an aggressive Russia on its doorstep.

Starmer confirmed he will host a meeting of international leaders in the U.K. on Sunday, focused on Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to attend.

European countries are striving to bolster their collective defense as Trump transforms American foreign policy. Trump has long questioned the value of NATO and complained that the U.S. provides security to European countries that don’t pull their weight.

Starmer told reporters aboard his plane that he’s confident Trump is committed to the NATO alliance and agrees “there’s only one aggressor (in Ukraine) and that’s Russia.”

Starmer announced Tuesday that the U.K. government will hike military spending to 2.5% of gross domestic product by 2027, years earlier than expected, and will aim to hit 3% by 2035. He called it the “biggest sustained increase in defense spending since the end of the Cold War.”

Americans should protest at what’s going on with speech laws in the UK.

Trump has raised the ante to 5 percent of GDP so Comrade Starmer better pay up.

Somehow I do not see Trump being swayed by this British squish.

Trump needs to get guarantees that US citizens will not be investigated or prosecuted for any UK speech laws in US or UK.
The UK PM should be embarrassed.

Trump should dress down Keir Stalin down in front of the cameras for the way he’s treating his citizens. Starmer is pure scum.

It wasn’t too long ago that officials within British Government threatened every American basically with arrest, including Elon Musk, because of criticisms we had for their tyrannical ways.

Why are Americans risking blood and treasure to protect Europe when they won’t even guarantee basic freedoms for our citizens, or their own? They don’t really need our protection and they are fast on the way to not deserving it. It’s just a subsidy for their governments at this point. They have no constitution; no first amendment, no second amendment, no fourth or fifth amendment.

We should draw down our forces immediately. Relocate some to counties like Poland where their rights will be respected; and any country that passes a law protecting Americans. Take away all military leave of absences (unless they go off the continent) and RORs, and limit trips off base to military necessities. Draw them down 10% a month each month until Europe enacts a law protecting Americans from these speech police.

They should also pass a law protecting American social media companies. The only speech crime that should be enforced is clear and direct incitement to violence. US law is very specific on what incitement means.

Maybe Sir should have considered the damage he was doing to the “special relationship” when he tried to interfere in our election.

I voted for Trump to get us out of this war. No more taxpayer money, no more weapon shipments, none of it.

I am being patient but anything else will not make me very happy.

We have very little in common with the EU now, they want censorship, open borders, and endless wars. They won’t be offering Ukraine freedom because they no longer believe in it.

Send Starmer packing, President Trump.

I'll relocate all the bases in Europe to Poland.

The Europeans should figure out how to fortify their defenses in the Baltics. It's their responsibility and their sphere of influence. We should withdraw troops from the Baltics and relocate them to Poland.

“special relationship that has endured since World War II, he faces an uncertain reception”?
I guess no one told the AP that the special relationship has imploded since AP got kicked out of the press room.
Brits need to drop kick Starmer (Obama puppet) into the channel.

What Starmer thinks hes doing is really rather irrelevant once he sees Trump.

The UK isnt an ally or “friend” in any way anymore.

Starmer signed a 100 year defense pact with Ukraine.

Someone over there is getting young British men, or at least people posing as young British men, to talk about “British might” of old and stoking pride.

Parliament is talking about conscription.

They are talking about sending in a “security force” which is nothing more than a NATO tripwire.

Globalists are planning on war with Russia come hell or high water which is why they went after the neutral president of Romania. They are planning for a major air force base there .

EU has promised billions per year to continue the war to Ukraine.

Ukraine doesnt have anyone else left to send. If UK/Germany/France want to grind up their kids thats fine I suppose.

Pull us out of NATO before they try calling for us too.

"It’s a European problem."

Europe hasn't stood on its own two feet, even after two World Wars.
