US and Russia in talks on economic cooperation in the Arctic for trade and natural resource development.

Washington and Moscow are in early discussions about cooperation in the Arctic, focusing on trade routes and natural resource exploration, according to sources familiar with the matter. The potential collaboration aligns with President Donald Trump's diplomatic efforts to ease tensions with Russia, despite concerns from European and NATO allies.

Officials from both nations have identified Arctic energy exploration and shipping lanes as key areas of interest. One U.S. official suggested that fostering Arctic engagement could help drive a wedge between Russia and China, which have strengthened ties in recent years. However, experts caution that such a strategy may have limited success, given their deepening economic and geopolitical alignment.

Amid these talks, U.S. and Russian officials are scheduled to meet in Istanbul on Thursday to discuss restoring embassy staffing levels, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Well it’s good that we’re having cooperation instead of conflict.

Now all we need is a Make Canada Great Again prime minister to help with development.

You know what would be weird? If we ever did something JUST because it was good for the American people! It’s amazing, no matter what we do in the world, they explain how it’s important because it helps us screw with some other country, or spread discord somewhere.

Should have happened 40 years ago!

Thank the neoCON scum and the Bush family for keeping Russia as a perpetual boogey-man after the Cold War ended instead of pursuing peace and cooperation and welcoming them back into Christendom!

Trump should request Europe hand over Greenland as the price of keeping the US in NATO.

Be prepared to walk away if they say no...

It doesn’t have to be a zero sum game with the Russians. We can both do business and make money while investing our peace dividends.

Our peace dividend will be much larger than theirs. We out spend Russia on defense eight times over.

The Russians - Putin et al - have got to know that China is a much more immediate threat to their sovereignty - Siberia - than the US is. Trump’s outreach on this is the right move.

Not every government decision has to be comparable to some game of multi dimensional chess.

Russia fronts on half the Arctic circle, so they should be willing to negotiate the other half, which is covered by Alaska, Canada, and Greenland.

Now there is an interesting idea. Very Trumpian, too. Good job.

Oh dear. The E.U. warmongers and US neocons are going to have a fit.

Now this, after 25% tariffs on European goods.

Appeasement, betrayal…

They help us keep the Chicoms out of Greenland and we help them hold Siberia.

Don’t count on it - China already has a mining “consortium” in Greenland
