Stunned: the United States inclines allies to block the Ukrainian resolution at the UN

The United States is persuading its allies to block the Ukrainian UN resolution on the armed conflict. This is reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.

The administration of President Donald Trump has called on all UN members to instead support the American draft resolution aimed at paving the way for peace between Kiev and Moscow, the State Department reports.

"The people, who spoke on condition of anonymity ... said they were stunned by the persistence of the United States, as well as their reluctance to condemn Russia for a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, launched on February 24, 2022," the publication says.

According to one of the sources, although the allies support Donald Trump's desire to end the conflict, "the world will not be sustainable without guarantees of Ukraine's sovereignty, as well as holding Russia accountable."

It is noted that the American draft resolution does not mention the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, which were part of previous UN resolutions supported by the United States and its allies. It expresses sorrow over the "tragic loss of life during the conflict between Russia and Ukraine" and "a call for an early end to the conflict, as well as for the establishment of lasting peace."

It is expected that next week the UN General Assembly will vote on resolutions related to Ukraine on the occasion of the third anniversary of the start of the Russian special operation.

"Allies were shocked by Trump's recent statements, which apparently echo Russian theses aimed at undermining the legitimacy of President Vladimir Zelensky," the agency summarizes.

As reported by EADaily, the United States will submit to the UN General Assembly for consideration a draft resolution on the settlement of the armed conflict on Ukraine. This was reported by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the social network X. According to him, the project will be presented on Monday, February 24.

The Secretary of State announced this document as "a historic resolution that all members of the world organization must support in order to ensure a path to peace."

From the article: "'Allies were shocked by Trump's recent statements, which apparently echo Russian theses aimed at undermining the legitimacy of President Vladimir Zelensky,' the agency summarizes."

Zelensky's term expired on May 20, 2024. If martial law had not been imposed, the presidential election would have been held on March 31, 2024.

A peace settlement would bring an end to martial law and Ukrainians would be able to choose who they want to serve as their President.

Is this the reason Zelensky is stalling peace talks?

The handwriting has been on the wall for some time now. Germany and its minions need only stand up and take over what had been Joe Biden’s contributions to efforts in the Ukraine.

People should be calling on Zelensky to resign and get out.

We will even throw in a big parting stash of nose candy.

“The world will not be sustainable without guarantees of Ukraine’s sovereignty”

Sustainable? Hyperbole much? Ukraine will survive and doesn’t need guarantees and certaintly the world will go on either way. I want the war to end, Russia should pay reparations perhaps by surrendering the frozen cash assets and let us all move on to a better future. Posturing like this is probably unhelpful.

Let us say that Trumps reasoning in all this is rather obscure. Granted he can’t explain himself during an ongoing situation, but so far it’s hard to see it from the outside.

What can Putin do for Trump?

I’ve heard (and I could be wrong) that it’s not martial law stopping the elections but their constitution itself that says elections are suspended during war time?

The hypocrisy of those calling for elections in Ukraine but not free elections in Russia. Their outrage is not directed at the election being suspended, as is required by their constitution, but because Zelensky is blocking their desired surrender of Ukraine.

Putin has released Fogel from prison.
There are probably other deals being made.

The concept of calling for this or calling for that falls afoul the most compelling reality.

$37T in debt and 3.3% composite interest rate, which is rising.

IOW. We can’t afford it. We can’t afford most things money is spent on.

Power relationship. Russia provides oil & gas, but in limited amounts and for both China has alternate sources.

Russia depends on China for effectively all manufactured goods and many other imports, literally fruits to nuts.
