“For a significant percentage of them, it would not be a major problem. They’ve already aligned themselves with the prisoners instead of the prison.”
That is the most ignorant thing I have read on FR in as long as I can remember.
Since you were up there in that system, you know what it’s like in Ogdensburg, Attica and Dannemora. Freezing cold and no Vitamin D. No wonder they are rioting.
LOL!! During my career, I met a lot of Sergeant's and Lieutenants who were from Dannemora. The term of endearment we used for them was "frozen brains." They took it very well. Leo Payant who was married to Donna Payant, the female officer who was killed at Greenhaven was Captain at Mid-State when I worked there. I was a Sergeant by then. They were both from Clinton, NY.
The majority of the supervisors I worked with from up north, were some of the best I worked with over the years. They were no-nonsense individuals.
I believe Hochul closed Ogdensburg in 2023, along with several others this past year.
Cuomo started the trend of closing state prisons and dumping inmates back on the street. Him and Hochul dumped quite a few during Covid. It's the same thing his old man did with the psychiatric patients when he was Governor. Psych centers were emptied, and turned into prisons. I transferred out of Auburn in December 1983 to move closer to where I'd been living before I took the job. I'm originally from Rochester. Marcy Psychiatric Center was turned into Mid-State Correctional Facility, and we received our first inmates sometime in January 1984. Mid-State is where I retired from in 2003.
I worked for my county in IT and used to support the jail. How they show enough restraint from not shooting all of the inmates, I’ll never know.
