Democrat legislators in Washington state have mounted a movement to remove George Washington’s face from the state flag.
The image of George Washington on the state flag comes from the state seal, designed in 1889 when the Evergreen State achieved statehood. Washington state law declares, “The official flag of the state of Washington shall be of dark green silk or bunting and shall bear in its center a reproduction of the seal of the state of Washington embroidered, printed, painted or stamped thereon.” The flag was officially adopted on March 5, 1923.
Washington state was named after George Washington and is the only state named after a president.
State Reps. Strom Peterson, Julia Reed, and Greg Nance introduced House Bill 1938, which states, “While George Washington is an important national figure, he has limited historical connection to the state itself. This makes his image less meaningful as a symbol for the state.”
“If House Bill 1938 is enacted, the Washington State Flag Redesign Committee will work toward adopting a new design by July 1, 2028. The proposed design will then be submitted to voters for approval in a general election, ensuring that any change to the state flag reflects the will of Washington’s citizens,” My Northwest reported.
A Washington blogger who is supposed to testify in favor of changing the flag authored a blog titled, “The Washington State flag is deeply and historically bad and we should change it.” “Washington’s flag is uninspired. It was not the result of a broad public process but rather something we arrived at late, 34 years after statehood,” he wrote. “While the name honors a national figure, its origins reflect a moment when the voices of the people living in the region were overlooked. I’m not saying we need to go as far as changing the state’s name (that would be crazy! looks around), but we don’t need to underline it with a state flag.”
Washington state having a bong water sales with extra strong THC count.
2026 is looking good. 2028 even better.
Change the name of the state to North Oregon or South British Columbia.
Che Guevara
William Rufus DeVane King was a senator from Alabama and served as Franklin Pierce's vice president briefly until death claimed him a month after inauguration. Senator Andrew Johnson of Tennessee called him "Senator Nancy Boy" for his suspected homosexuality.
Change the name of the State to Marxland. Fitting
Agree, the State is not worthy of the name Washington.
Let me explain something that is typical of politicians in this state.
“.....n April 19, 2005, King County is officially renamed in honor of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968) when Governor Christine Gregoire (b. 1947) signs into law Senate Bill 5332. The signing and ceremony take place at the King County Courthouse in Seattle.........King County was first named in 1852 in honor of William Rufus King, who had won election that year as Vice President on the Democratic ticket with President Franklin Pierce. In 1986 the King County Council passed Motion No. 6461, which named the county to honor civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. instead of Vice President King.......”
The Soviet of Washington is about as blue a state as one can get. The State Legislature is dominated by the Democratic Party and almost all elected officials at the State Level have been Democrats for decades.
True. When the Senate was in session, Sen. King of Alabama and Sen. James Buchanan of Pennsylvania roomed together. There was suspicion on the part of Sen. Johnson of Tennessee (and others) that the two men were homosexual lovers.
Ah, “the Soviet of Washington,” named as such by James Farley, FDR’s Postmaster General and political fixer. It was one of only two states that experienced general strikes, and there was a large contingent of the International Workers of the World in that state. That led to the slaughter in Centralia just after World War I.
Land of Boz would be a good alternative for the mentally ill Washingtonians triggered by George Washington
almost all elected officials at the State Level have been Democrats for decades.

The word ‘elected’ needs to be defined in WA Democrat terms:
We count votes till we are ahead. That ... is ... all.
As a resident I have offered this state plus Oregon as booby prizes when Denmark buys California.
I heard that is the concept they’re going for.
Most of the violence was by armed citizens or by business owners who hired armed thugs to break up strikes and protests.
Perhaps the WA State Constitution 2nd Amendment “rka” wording give a true clue to what was happening early in the State's history.
“......Article I, Section 24 of the Washington State Constitution states: “[t]he right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men.”.......”
Probably what they are considering is a hammer and sickle, with two snowflakes on either side, with the background as the LGBTQIA+ flag. flag.
I want move outta here SO badly....
The country exists because of George Washington.
Rufus King was not a 'local worthy'. He was vice president of the United States. They name the county 'King' in order to curry favor in D.C. Sadly, this turned out to be a not-so-good investment, as Rufus King died of Leukemia 7 weeks into his term.
