In Fresno, California, social media rumors about impending immigration raids at the city’s schools left some parents panicking — even though the raids were all hoaxes. In Denver, a real immigration raid at an apartment complex led to scores of students staying home from school, according to a lawsuit. And in Alice, Texas, a school official incorrectly told parents that Border Patrol agents might board school buses to check immigration papers.
President Donald Trump’s immigration policies already are affecting schools across the country, as officials find themselves responding to rising anxiety among parents and their children, including those who are here legally. Trump’s executive actions vastly expanded who is eligible for deportation and lifted a ban on immigration enforcement in schools.
As they weigh the risks, many families have struggled with separating facts from rumor.
In the Alice Independent School District in Texas, school officials told parents that the district “received information” that U.S. Border Patrol agents could ask students about their citizenship status during field trips on school buses that pass through checkpoints about 60 miles from the Texas-Mexico border. The information ended up being false.
Angelib Hernandez of Aurora, Colorado, began keeping her children home from their schools a few days a week after Trump’s inauguration. Now she doesn’t send them at all.
She’s worried immigration agents will visit her children’s schools, detain them and separate her family.
“They’ve told me, ‘Hopefully we won’t ever be detained by ourselves,’” she said. “That would terrify them.”
Hernandez and her children arrived about a year ago and applied for asylum. She was working through the proper legal channels to remain in the U.S., but changes in immigration policies have made her status tenuous.
In the past week, her fears have intensified.

The Ass Press strikes again.
We need DOGE to find a financial link between AP and the deep state and expose it.
More gaslighting
aren’t we sending checks to the AP?
Sounds like the policies and actions aren’t (yet) affecting schools.
Just the schools making up scary scenarios in their heads and taking unjustified actions based on rumors and fears.
And then ap makes a scaremonger story out of it.
Ii you obey our laws, you needn’t be worried. I wonder why AP failed to mention that little fact.
Given AP only reports fake news, keep them out of the White House permanently
Each one of the largely uneducated and illiterate kids of our illegal alien guests invited in by Biden are bringing our failing schools $25,000 -$30,000 per student per year so they fail in an even more spectacular and lavishly funded fashion.
“Schools around the US confront anxiety over Trump’s actions on ILLEGAL immigration”
Corrected.
Which begs the question, how do you teach illegal alien children anything when they don't understand English? We are told by the MSM that there are >150 different foreign languages that these children speak. How does a public education system deal with this?
“anxiety” is a common word used in leftist-directed media. It has a special resonance for them.
AP is shinning a light on ‘education’… deep dark avenue of money, money, money…. The education public and private, system, is a shell game to make money.. these people are no different than the business charities trafficking children.. in the Lord’s name.
How many illegal students do schools get money for. I’ve heard in California we spend over 20 grand per student. That money could be going to hire more teachers for smaller classes, bring back wood shop or super crazy returned to the tax payer.
GOOD! it’s about freaking time that they “experience anxiety” for harboring and protecting “ILLEGAL INVADERS!” which is a crime!
AP=trash
>> She’s worried immigration agents will visit her children’s schools, detain them and separate her family.
I would HATE to see Angelib separated from her kiddos.
Tell you how to relieve that worry, hon... grab those kiddos and y’all go back to where you came from! Problem solved.
How many billions upon billions are we taxpayers sending on “educating” illegal students? - Paying for bilingual services, ESL classes, remedial/special ed services - at the expense of our own American students?
All while illegals send billions in remittances back to the “old country” and access our medical and welfare systems.
