The U.S. federal government is spending over $1 million to fund LGBT mentorship programs and clubs for children as young as 12 through an activist organization that supports body-mutilating interventions for minors who identify as the opposite sex.
An initiative of the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the Lifeworks Mentorship program, matches LGBT-identifying youth 24 and under with an adult who can help them be their "absolute best selves." As the group's IRS 990 forms indicate, it received $162 million in revenue in 2023.
The mentorship program mentors provide support in "goal-setting through five achievement areas: home, health, education, career, and personal development," according to the Los Angeles LGBT Center website.
"Each Mentor is trained with skills to be there for their mentee — not as parents or teachers, but as people who are there to guide them in being their absolute best selves. The LifeWorks Mentoring program begins with a 12-month commitment between a mentor-mentee but for many turns into a lifelong bond," the description on the site continues.
According to the data, the U.S. federal government granted $910,000 in support of the program, funding it through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration, a subset of the Department of Health and Human Services.
At the time of reporting, $574,013 of the grant money has been disbursed, with additional money to follow until the end of the grant term, which is in August 2025. The HHS is scheduled to provide $250,000 and $375,000 in grant funding to the Los Angeles LGBT Center to fund the Lifeworks Community Action Network.
The term for the $250,000 and $375,000 grants is slated to end in 2027, but the funding has yet to be disbursed.
As the Los Angeles LGBT Center explains on its website, the CAN initiative exists to "strengthen" LGBT clubs on middle school and high school campuses. The group states on its site that leaders of these groups are "trained in facilitation skills to build community and create social change, thereby supporting students on their campuses."
The training consists of "LGBTQ competency and awareness" and "safe spaces and inclusivity."
The Los Angeles LGBT Center and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services did not immediately respond to The Christian Post's request for comment.
On its website, the Los Angeles LGBT Center condemns President Donald Trump's executive order that called for the removal of federal funding from medical schools and hospitals that condone life-altering, experimental treatments for gender dysphoric children. The LGBT activist group claimed the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles sent a "demoralizing" message by complying with the order.
In addition, the activist group has expressed support for allowing men who identify as female to compete on women's sports teams, "calling for federal protection of transgender students' right to participate in high school sports."
The Trump administration has started to raise concerns about taxpayers funding LGBT programs.
Earlier this month, the White House released a statement highlighting several reports on how the U.S. Agency for International Development has spent tax dollars during previous presidential administrations.
For example, federal records show that the activist group Asociacion Lambda received a $2 million grant from USAID to fund organizations that provide so-called "gender-affirming care," like body-mutilating gender surgeries and LGBT activism.
Other reported expenditures highlighted by the White House include $70,000 for the production of a "DEI musical" in Ireland and $47,000 for a "transgender opera" in Colombia.
Oh, it's a dating service for chicken hawks.

Unbelievable. We are funding programs, for 12 year old girls who feel confused or disturbed, and pair them with an older woman, to help them on their lesbian journey? Am I understanding this correctly? And this is #1 a good thing to do, and #2 worthy of spending tax money on?
In the interest of fairness, is there a comparable group that matches adult men with young girls who are not “LGBT-identifying”? Men who can help them explore their heterosexual nature and blossom as fully rounded young women?
Hopefully this is another nail in the coffin of wasteful government spending.

There is a long history of social contagion with this demographic—anorexia and bulimia are also spread this way. And we know that teen girls today are in the midst of the worst mental health crisis on record, with the highest rates of anxiety, self-harm, and clinical depression. The teen girls susceptible to this social contagion are the same high-anxiety, depressive girls who struggle socially in adolescence and tend to hate their bodies. Add to that a school environment where you can achieve status and popularity by declaring a trans identity.
Casey Chalk in an article titled “The People Carving Up Healthy ‘Trans’ Kids Have Literal ‘Blood On Their Hands’” said, “After a 1,500 percent increase in the number of female teenagers identifying as transgender in a 10-year-period, the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare assessed that the risks of puberty blockers and so-called gender-affirming treatment were likely to outweigh the expected benefits. Denmark, seeing an 8,700 percent increase in the number of documented pediatric cases requesting transgender surgery in less than a decade, also decided to sharply reduce transitions. Norway and Finland have also implemented measures to limit access to interventions for gender dysphoric youth.

The article “The Evidence to Support Medicalised Gender Transitions in Adolescents is Worryingly Weak” said, “Almost all America’s medical authorities support gender-affirming care. But those in Britain, Finland, France, Norway and Sweden, while supporting talking therapy as a first step, have misgivings about the pharmacological and surgical elements of the treatment. A Finnish review, published in 2020, concluded that gender reassignment in children is “experimental” and that treatment should seldom proceed beyond talking therapy. Swedish authorities found that the risks of physical interventions “currently outweigh the possible benefits” and should only be offered in “exceptional cases”.”
Here is another case of the liberal/progressive/democrat establishment promoting and utilizing a wreckage of natural humans. When successful, these deformed beings then become a legion of high priests and priestesses emanating from political or academic temples to assert a dominion of chaos for them to exploit in the public arena.
There should be zero government funding from any government level for such things.
The growth of the whole government-NGO funding interlink over the past forty years has destroyed the very meaning of “charities” and “charitiable giving” in the United States.
The government (and anyone else for that matter) shouldn’t be promoting mental illness as “normal” and “desired”. What fraud, decadence, insanity and criminality!

Its more than that, more than the specific topic, it’s the destruction of what being a “charity”, a “not-for-profit” was supposed to be, which was not an entity surving only on money from the government, and not serving as an instrurment of government policy. “Charities” and “non-profits” was supposed to be things we the people do totally, voluntarily, on our own, independent of the government.
Exactly right. The nation was FAR better off when charity was at the community level with churches, local charitable giving, and families caring for the needy and indigent with love and hope. When far-off impersonal Washington gets involved, things turn out MUCH MUCH WORSE because there is no care, no compassion, no personal involvement. Then the NGOs turn into a self-serving monstrous industry whose only mission is to create MORE poor to take care of. The NGOs wouldn't exist without a base to serve. They need MORE homeless and illegals. It's a horribly vicious cycle that needs to stop.
And now for all intents and purposes, the Churches have turned into NGOs.
