Thomson Reuters’ $9M contract with US Defense Department draws ire from Trump, Musk

Department of Defense (DoD) contracts with the Thomson Reuters news agency to develop automated defenses against social engineering attacks were railed against Thursday by President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk.

“Reuters was paid millions of dollars by the US government for ‘large scale social deception,’” Musk wrote on X. “They’re a total scam.”

Many, including Musk, were in outrage at the contracts awarded to Reuters that were labeled as Active Social Engineering and Large Scale Social Deception (LSD) in DoD contracts.

Trump expressed frustration on Truth Social where he demanded Reuters "GIVE BACK THE MONEY, NOW!"

"Radical Left Reuters was paid $9,000,000 by the Department of Defense to study 'large scale social deception,'" he wrote.

Thomson Reuters Special Services, in conjunction with the Air Force Research Laboratory and funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), was tasked with developing defenses against cyberattacks such as phishing, to create systems that can detect, analyze and mitigate the threats on a large scale and enhance cybersecurity.

The initiative started in 2018, under the first Trump administration and continued until 2022 when the Joe Biden administration ended the contract, worth $9,147,532.00.

Trump also targeted Politico and the New York Times in another Truth Social post. He questioned why and how much Politico and the "failing" New York Times were paid for "nothing."

"PAY BACK THE MONEY TO THE TAXPAYERS!" he said.

The US government also spent $40 million on subscriptions to The New York Times, according to the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) Live Tracker, which revealed the figures Monday.

In response, The Times stated that the funds received were payments for government subscriptions, totaling less than $2 million last year.

It revealed that canceled Politico subscriptions amounted to $500,000.

Wouldn’t that $9M contract be considered an illegal campaign contribution to Joe Biden? Pam Bondi is going to have a busy 4 years!

I'm not qualified to say, regarding illegal campaign contributions.

As Rooters received the money, not Biden, it may fall in the classification of bribery.

somebody tell our side that sounds like sloppy recordation of contract purpose. i’d wager it’s for Deception Mitigation and Social Engineering Defense or Prevention

criticize them for outsourcing this if you think th the feds have the chops to handle cyber defense workforce skills enhancement all on their own. or criticize them for a non-competitively awarded contract or some other error.

but don’t guffaw over the misnamed contract purpose due to not understanding the subject matter.

and remember Hanlon’s Razor. “never ascribe to malevolence what can be adequately explained by incompetence”

For those wondering, Thomson Reuters is owned by Canada’s wealthiest family, which is comprised of hereditary, British peers.

A globalist NWO connection there... And they have our US Pentagon paying to work for them.

Thompson Reuters has nothing to do with Reuters news. Hate to break it to you all but sometimes unrelated entities might have similar names. Like George Washington and Denzel Washington LOL

Thompson Reuters has nothing to do with Reuters news.

In the business of getting paid to disseminate Disinformation for the purpose of causing harm to uninformed Law Abiding American Citizens, that statement is as true as asserting that General Motors has nothing to do with Oldsmobile, and an Oldsmobile drivetrain will not fit or operate in any other General Motors automobile being used to deliver uninformed Law Abiding American Citizens to "re-education" camps.

They are a software company that reportedly got paid to develop and train anti phishing policies, programs and safeguards. That has nothing to do with media.

See, that could be a very Bad Thing, if they were paid to develop and train anti phishing policies, programs and "safeguards" for Bad Guy Criminals to protect their Secrets, ... like Undermining the Constitution, Empowering a Tyranny Bureaucracy, Stealing Elections, Subverting Equal Protection Under The Law, Grooming Children, or Protecting and Organizing Criminals to Attack Law Abiding Citizens While Looting and Burning American Cities.

That has nothing to do with media.

Unless the Media use those Programs and "safeguards" to Protect their Disinformation and Lies from Exposure by Whistleblowers.

Then it's All Bad, ... Instigators, Program, Product, Payments, and Misdirection of Investigation.

Majority of Evidence supports All Bad conclusion.

Yeah because it couldn’t be that all kinds of criminals and hostile foreign governments try every day to phish into Federal computer systems and networks. Of course that has nothing to do with it. Sheesh.

Yep, "all kinds of criminals and hostile foreign governments"

That's why they pick Reuters instead of Norton.
