Trump: US, Russia Agree to Start Talks on Ending Ukraine War

President Donald Trump said he spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin Wednesday about starting negotiations "immediately" to end the war in Ukraine.

Trump said in a social media post that he and Putin held a lengthy phone call during which they committed to “work together, very closely” to bring the conflict to an end and would meet in person, including perhaps in each other's countries.

It was unclear how closely Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would be involved. Although Trump held a phone call with him Wednesday, Ukrainian presidential adviser Dmytro Lytvyn said, characterizing it as a "good conversation."

Trump's prioritization of speaking with Russia before Ukraine is a departure from the policy of the Biden administration that stressed "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine."

Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Trump's special Russia-Ukraine envoy, retired Gen. Keith Kellogg, will all be in Germany later this week for the annual Munich Security Conference, which Zelenskyy will also attend.

However, in a blow to Ukraine's aspirations, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said earlier Wednesday at NATO headquarters in Brussels that NATO membership was not realistic for Ukraine and said that any security guarantees for the country would have to be born by European countries.

Trump said they also “agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately” and would be alerting Zelenskyy to their conversation. He appointed Rubio, CIA director John Ratcliffe, national security advisor Michael Waltz, and his special Mideast envoy Steven Witkoff to lead those talks.

Trump said he and Putin agreed to work closely together and visit each other's nations.

"I just had a lengthy and highly productive phone call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. We discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, Energy, Artificial Intelligence, the power of the Dollar, and various other subjects," he said.

It probably depends if Britain tells Zelensky to be involved or not.

Trump’s prioritization of speaking with Russia before Ukraine is a departure from the policy of the Biden administration“

That’s because Biden and the rest of the rats wanted to keep their money laundering op running as long as possible

I pray to God that they end this. Just try and imagine how many were killed and property decimated all to prolong a money grab. The contempt that politicians have toward the population of soldiers is satanic and it could have been settled at the on set if not for Britain’s intervention with zelensky. All to line the pockets of people who will never see a front line in war.

I guarantee the talks have already started. Zelensky just hasn’t been told yet. 😉

Yeah, who does he think he is? President of Ukraine or something? Besides, it's not about Ukraine; it's about what Russia wants and what they'll be allowed to keep from Ukraine.

Trump, Putin and MBS are discussing how the worlds three energy superpowers are going to divide up the distribution of the worlds oil and gas resources.

This is how the adults in the room define diversity, equity and inclusion.

Once that is agreed upon, they can move on to the future status of the Ukraine.

Zelensky is just an EU puppet.

You mean, the Ukrainian people didn't have a say as to who their president is?

Regardless of how he got there, HI IS the president of Ukraine, and he does matter. The 'puppet' argument is lame.

I feel great sorrow for both the Ukrainian blood and Russian blood shed in this totally unnecessary war. Many on both sides have both Russian and Ukrainian blood in their veins. Those on the ground see their brother warriors killed, maimed, tortured etc. and then go after the other side with brutal vengeance, horror and brutality. That is the way war has always worked. Those that eventually come home are often mentally damaged.

As always, those that fight the war, did not start the war!

I forgot to add this. Sometimes war is unavoidable and necessary when a nation has a clear and present danger to its existence. It then needs to be prosecuted with violence in the extremist to end the insanity of war. We did this in WWII and it worked. We killed on the battlefields, we killed from the air and burnt cities to the ground and then dropped nukes. It worked. “Cry Havoc and let slip the dogs of war.” Otherwise stay home as you will lose. If you are not willing to kill your enemy and all that stand with him, surrender for he has already defeated you.

Since WWII despite overwhelming ability we have lost every war engaged in. We lost because our leaders would not go to total war. There are two odd exceptions which is Iraq and Afghanistan. We won both wars easily and then lost the peace trying to establish democracy and now both nations are actually hostile in reality.

We have never lost a war on the battlefield, but have lost many in Washington’s DC’s Political Swamp.
