A judge has ruled that a Gazan family can join a relative in the UK under a scheme meant for Ukrainian refugees - leading to fears the decision could pave the way for a new wave of asylum seekers.
Norton-Taylor decided that the Palestinian family of six should be able to move to the UK under the Ukraine Family Scheme.
The initiative was set up in March 2022 to allow Ukrainians fleeing the war with Russia to move to the UK if they had a relative who was a British citizen or had settled status. The scheme ended last year.
But a Palestinian family - a father, mother and four children - whose home had been blown up in an air strike applied to move to Britain under the programme, claiming that their situation was so "compelling" that they should be let in anyway.
They were initially rebuffed because their case didn't fit the scheme, with the rationale that it is up to Parliament which countries can benefit from resettlement programmes, the Telegraph reported.
But Norton-Taylor, an upper tribunal judge, overruled this decision, and found that the family had the right to come to the UK on the basis of their Article 8 right to a family life under the European Convention on Human Rights.
Judge Norton-Taylor ruled that their specific situation outweighed the public interest in keeping to British immigration rules.

A country can handle one or two exceptional cases, and NOT be able to handle a flood.
Regarding Ukraine, wherever they draw the border between it and Russia shouldn’t matter IF people on the wrong side of the border (as they see it), are allowed to relocate.
(To be sure, there are some limitations to this principle. For example, we would contiguous countries with borders that are easy to recognize if not easy to defend.)
The problem regarding Ukraine isn’t the border, it’s whether Russia will accept that Ukraine is a sovereign nation.
Looks like the Muslims own the UK.
The only thing this has to do with The Ukraine is The UK perverting the rules.
I hope Sweden has learned its lesson and will not invite Gaza “refugees “ in.
In a sense, the UK created this whole problem so there would be some poetic justice to it, however disastrous it would be for them, for the Gazans to all land in the UK.
Does not surprise me a bit.

Hi Blackbird. Did you read the name of this thread? The name of this thread compares Ukraine to Gaza.
As for “UK perverting the rules,” would you explain what this means? What “rules” and what is UK doing to “pervert” the rules?
9YearLurker, are you aware that this area of the world has been a mess since the fifth century BC when it was caught between Persia and the Greco-Roman world? The origins of problems in the Middle East long predate the organization of modern Britain (which we can date as the eleventh century, with the Norman conquest).
The Ottoman Empire was part of the losing side of WWI. The victorious side did what it wanted with the Ottoman Empire, as happens after wars. To modern Turkey’s credit, Ataturk expelled its occupiers, and forged that country. To Jordan’s credit, it fashioned itself into a decent country.
As for the other countries formed from the Ottoman Empire, most, like Syria, have been hell holes. Whose fault is that? Blaming Great Britain for the failures of country’s like Syria is a convenient excuse.
People who do not accept self-responsibility will always be losers. Some people aren’t self-responsible for understandable reasons: they’re children or they’re mentally-retarded. Treating adults as not being self-responsible is, at best, counter-productive.
The current issue is with how Israel was created IMO.
And yes, I understand the history.
So, you talking pre-1949. This makes you a river to the sea guy, correct? An interesting solution to the Jew question.
Yes, and no.
I am thinking “yes” is to my statement that you’re a pre-1949 guy. And “no” is to my question are you a river to the sea guy.
At this point, I’m two degrees of guessing as to what you mean about anything.
Does your Jew explanation for what’s wrong in the Middle East explain why Jordan is a decent country while Syria is effed up?
Or, do the Jordanians get any credit for the success of their country, and do Syrians get any blame for the failure of their country?
