Texas is Allowed to Defend the Border Again
FrontPage Magazine ^ | Feb 4 2025 | Daniel Greenfield

At least part of the way.

The Biden administration’s open border Kabuki theater required pretending that the mass invasion was beyond its control to rein in all the while vigorously fighting any state action in court. After Arizona fell into leftist hands, that mainly meant an extended legal battle to block Texas from protecting its border.

But now there’s an administration in office that actually wants to close the border. And Texas gets to play.

The Texas National Guard will now be able to not only secure the border, but also detain border invaders, this is important beyond the moment because it also creates an important precedent about the rights of states to secure their own borders.

Unfortunately the agreement requires the Texas Guard to operate under the authority of CBP, and while there are good operational and legal reasons for that, it would be more worthwhile to provide for a full precedent empowering states to police borders and stop invaders from coming through.

2028 may seem like a long time away and everyone is still flying high, but things can change pretty quickly.

And come 2029 and, let’s say President Gavin Newsom (not likely) or President Pete Buttigieg (even less likely) decide to open up the border again, it would be nice if Texas had an established precedent for securing the border rather than having to rely on having to rely on the temporary authority of a Republican White House.

Indeed. These Changes MUST be Permanent so that they can’t be overturned on the whim of whoever is in power.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - America can put a million men on the border in just a few days.

In such a scenario l don’t think the precedent would hold. Obongo and Robert’s saw to that.

I think that is the first time a Texas ping! and a Greenfield ping! have coincided.

I work too much now, but hope to start more Texas articles in April.

Needs to be codified — so there won’t have to be another “again”.

Thanks for including me with Floridians.

My 16 years there were awesome, even with the insane hurricane season of 2004-2005.

You are most welcome!

I moved back to Jax in Feb. 2004, so I am more than conversationally familiar with the 2004 -2005 Hurricane season.

I love Texas, but I live in Florida, so I love it more!

The only way to make them even semi-permanent is to have the issue fully adjudicated
