The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is the latest federal agency staring down significant cuts by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Brian Bjelde, a top DOGE lieutenant, informed senior staff at OPM to plan for the loss of 70 percent of internal staff, according to CNN.
OPM leaders were ordered to prepare for an initial 30 percent reduction, which would ultimately grow to 70 percent, according to reports.
The order has significantly rattled government employees who did not expect to lose their jobs under the Trump administration.
'People around OPM look like they have seen ghost. People are shocked,' a source told Federal News Network.
Officials also directed OPM leaders to stop working on any project not required by law to continue, according to the Federal News network.
DOGE continues to email federal workers offering them a deferred resignation opportunity that allows individuals to resign from their federal positions by Thursday, February 6 and allow them to receive full pay and benefits until September 30th.
The now infamous 'Fork in the Road' memo has earned the ire of federal workers, as protesters gathered outside federal offices Monday morning to protest Musk's culling of federal government workers.
Former federal employee Keya Chatterjee, the executive director of Free D.C. told USA Today that 'Musk can fork off.'
Other protesters shouted, 'We don't want your tech solutions, give us back our constitution,' and 'Elon, Elon, have you heard? You're a nasty, fascist nerd.'

The more I hear from them the more of them I want fired.
MORE!! MORE!!! MORE!!
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) serves as the chief human resources agency and personnel policy manager for the Federal Government.
Freaking Awesome!
Considering that the feds would have made America better off just burning all that money instead of funding these crazy people to just be more crazy, this makes perfect sense.
If they have 70% more employees than they need it’s no wonder that there is so much national debt.
Going out on a limb here, I’m guessing that there will be no WFH employees as of 10/1/2025. But full pay and benefits through September 30? That’s 7 months! I hope there is a clause that if the terminated employee finds other employment, the free ride ends.
I sure hope Elon & Company have really good security.

These Red Fascists deserve anything and everything DOGE throws at them.
We’re gonna need people for the real jobs that are comming.
Those of us with real jobs welcome our gubmit “workers” to the world of reality. Embrace the fears of being laid off. I wish no one those fears. However, an unwritten promise of permanent employment coupled with the permission to work at him is something that’s not ever lasted for long.
It’s historic and never been seen before. Trump blew the lid off this big government mob. The were shaking us all down in a big way. And worse. Much worse.
YAY!!!
If this happens government wide it would be one of the most consequential moves in my lifetime.
“Brian Bjelde, a top DOGE lieutenant...”
These writers use language similar to describing members of organized crime or terrorists. I guess “a top official” doesn’t sound sinister enough.
I’m NOT tired of winning!!!
It’s only 2 weeks and I have never seen anything like this EVER from D.C. WOWEE!!!!
They poked the lion, they attacked him and his family and all that he had worked for....FAFO!!!
