Former Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney would likely have to testify before a new U.S. House subcommittee that’s investigating the events that took place before and after Jan. 6, 2021, if she gets subpoenaed, which a subcommittee member has already said is likely to happen.
Despite Cheney receiving a pardon from former President Joe Biden during his final hours in office, presidential pardons come with the caveat that they remove Fifth Amendment privileges for the recipient. The Fifth Amendment grants the constitutional right to not answer questions in a court of law.
Many Republicans have criticized the work of the United States House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack, which Cheney was vice chair of, as a partisan attack. Cheney has been one of the most outspoken Republican critics of President Donald Trump since he mounted efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
New Investigation And Cheney
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana, announced the creation of the new select subcommittee to investigate events before and after Jan. 6, 2021, last week.
“House Republicans are proud of our work so far in exposing the false narratives peddled by the politically motivated January 6 Select Committee during the 117th Congress, but there is still more work to be done,” he said in a statement.
Rep. William Timmons, R-South Carolina, said on X (formerly Twitter) last week that pardoned Jan. 6 committee members should expect a subpoena soon.

Pelosi, et al really thought they could get away with the corrupt committee and never have to answer any questions since they would make sure Trump was in prison. I'd like to see that backfire big-time!
Despite? It is because of it. She cannot claim 5th Amendment now.
Exactly. Misleading headline.
Drag the wench in front of the USA and force her to answer - no 5th for you.
Make her war-ghoul father watch. Cancel any/all Halliburton contracts.
be nice if the hot seat she needs to feel was powered by clean burning propane.
Ha ....Subpoena Kamala....tell her she gets a 5th (of liquor )
I would like, since the numerous press interviewers never did so, for her to be shown her comments that she was working on the committee with a group of wonderful patriots wanting to restore “confidence in our elections”, alongside a montage of those committee members denying the legitimacy of multiple elections, including the Chairman denying the legitimacy of her own father’s election as Vice President and have her explain that.
Oh, noes. Cannot tell truth, cannot go to jail for perjury. Wut to doo?
Exactly, she can’t claim the 5th amendment and refuse to testify.
But she can be charged with contempt of court and/or perjury if she refuses to testify or doesn’t testify honestly.
Earlier post showed her name among those taking kickbacks from Ukraine “aid” money. So was Romney, McConnell, Pence, and all the usual Democrats.
Not sure what you mean - she could be charged with perjury if she lies to the committee, yes. She just can’t claim 5th amendment protections to not testify about her actions prior to that due to the pardon.
Perjury charges are still possible. Her actions at that time are protected. Not her future actions, including the crime of lying under oath.
Of course, then she will likely just stick to the Democrat Dodge... "I cannot recall".
They should construct an intricate perjury trap that she either has to lie, or give up information.
I expect it will be “I cannot remember” and “I don’t recall” answers a la Hillary Clinton.
Put her in jail, same cell Bannon was in.
If she testifies she will have to admit her private discussions with at least one represented party and confirm her violations of professional rules - leading to her being disbarred.
I know she could go to jail for perjury. That is my point. Be embarrassed by the truth or go to jail for perjury......Pick your poison, there should only be two choices.
Would the pardon protect her from perjury charges?
Being pardoned and testifying have nothing to do with each other. She’s not being prosecuted.
Or she can refuse to testify before Congress
Hold her in contempt .....
then what?
Toss her in the slammer.
