Donald Trump Shuts Down Federal Labor-Smuggling Program

President Donald Trump’s deputies are shutting down a semi-secret federal program that moves wage-cutting labor from Central and South America into American and European workplaces.

The Safe Mobility Initiative sought to create many Safe Mobility Offices in foreign countries where low-wage foreigners could apply for visas to live and work in the United States and Europe.

CBS News reported on January 23:

The Trump administration is shutting down processing offices in Latin America that the Biden administration set up to give migrants legal immigration options and dissuade them from crossing the southern border illegally, according to internal government documents obtained by CBS News.

The offices, established in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Guatemala, had allowed certain migrants living in or passing through those countries to apply for programs that would allow them to enter the U.S. legally.

“The internal State Department documents said the Trump administration is ceasing operations … as part of a “broader effort to assess how the United States manages migration processes to serve U.S. national interests,” the report added.

More than 30,000 migrants have been moved through the pipeline since 2024, via a variety of legal and quasi-legal routes, such as H-2A and H-2B work visas, parole loopholes, and asylum claims.

The plan was the brainchild of President Joe Biden’s zealously pro-migration border czar, Alejandro Mayorkas, and Biden’s pro-migration Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.

In turn, their deputies rolled the plan into a larger migration treaty — dubbed the LA Declaration — with multiple South American, Central American, and European countries, including Spain.

“The number of refugees that we have committed to accepting [in 2025] from this hemisphere is 35,000 to 50,000 [and] 125,000, globally,” Mayorkas, Biden’s Cuban-born migration chief, told a September 2024 meeting

Illegal immigration is invasion and MUST be stopped.

However, the consumer wins with wage-cutting labor that cuts costs.

Why is there little focus on consumer advantage - the key to prosperity and a prosperous economy?

Yeah, all this wage-cutting has made it possible for retailers to charge $10 for a dozen eggs.

What a boon for consumers! 🙄

Employer wins not consumers. Cuts costs, not prices.

There's no proof that consumers win with cheap labor unless the labor is off shore.

I cannot believe you posted that out and out BS. The costs of cheap labor are paid for ( subsidized) by the taxpayer with local guvs picking medical and educational bills. Please stop wit this globalist talking point. We need HIGHER wages in the USA for its citizens and not lower.

I’ll pay more for tomatoes picked by Americans or LEGAL immigrants.

Lower labor costs because of illegals is a high price to pay.

Most of the produce comes from Mexico or South America have you noticed any reduction in the price of produce?

If farmers are paying cheap wages in our fields now, why isn't there a reflection of the cheap labor in prices?

Our farming is mostly automated. Trump is right in saying prices will be reduced when oil prices come down. Fuel is a huge cost to farmers.

Here’s some ideas:
USA Citizen John works for company A. Pays income tax, property tax etc.

Company A decides they can get by paying Jose and Miquel (under the table) the same wage they are paying John, and get 2 for the price of 1, so fire John.

Company A may be able to charge less for their widgets since they have reduced their labor costs, however:

Jose and Miguel aren’t paying taxes, their families are stressing educational (they no speaka da english), housing, and welfare programs(since they are being paid under the table). And John is now on unemployment further stressing the system. USA loses.

Assuming they cut costs and lower prices, they also depress wages for the working class, making them more dependent on government assistance programs like food stamps. Then there’s the cost in social services that needs to be considered.

People have been doing their homework, but you know there are 10 or 50 programs for every one we hear about being shut down. Keep going!

YOUR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT earns 20k per year and is given 30k in benefits per year MULTIPLY THAT BY 8 MILLION equals 240 billion dollars not available for you or your family consumer needs and they send 50 billion of that out of the country and not spent in America and don’t pay taxes. no real benefit at all when they vote for more programs.

“ … and dissuade them from crossing the southern border illegally, “

This is just one of several programs that the Biden administration used to get millions of invaders into our country by ways other than just crossing over the Rio Grande. The Dems did everything they could to keep from having a picture of hordes coming to the border while they did everything they could to get millions into the heartland. What a disgusting disgusting group of anti-Americans we had in the White House.

Providing so many different ways to get foreigners into our country without the normal applications for immigration is how the Biden administration continued to say “the border is secure“. The country was not secure, just the border crossing stations. Why didn’t Republicans call them out on it?

Your comments largely deflate the argument that we need illegals to save on labor costs which will in turn benefit consumers. As you know, they do not.

The consumer who was injured by a drunk illegal driver, or the woman raped by an illegal don’t see those fake “lower labor costs” as a benefit. DUH

The parent whose kid got whooping cough or TB probably doesn’t see the so called lower laber costs as such a good thing.
