California Shocked as Florida Pre-Deploys Resources Ahead of Natural Disaster
Breitbart ^ | 01/22/2025 | Joel B. Pollak

Californians could only look on in awe and envy as Florida pre-deployed emergency resources ahead of the storm that dumped record amounts of snow on the Panhandle this week, rather than waiting until after the damage was done.

As Breitbart News has reported, firefighters in Los Angeles were not pre-deployed to risk spots ahead of the extreme wind event on January 7 and 8, which had been predicted for a week. L.A. Mayor Karen Bass was overseas in Ghana, repeating a pattern established by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), who disappeared to Mexico on a family vacation while over a dozen Californians died in a blizzard in March 2023.

Newsom has often targeted Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) over the state’s conservative social policies, but DeSantis has always been able to retort that Florida trounces California on key functions of government, including on how it handles natural disasters.

Sounds like a Babylon Bee headline, but it does CLEARLY indicate the difference between DEIs running the government (which means having to use the tools developed for non-DEIs) and having merit-based people running the government.

Be interesting if Trump links ALL federal grants to states and lower government to getting rid of DEI and being able to verify exactly that. If they want DEI, they should have to make their voters pay the cost.

IMHO California has a lot of changes to make before I would favor any Federal $$$’s to go there.

Our county (Santa Cruz) has a habit of deferring road maintenance. Emergency money is easier than effective budgeting. Makes for more pension pay.

All cities do that to some degree.

When dozens die and a hundred thousand people are displaced because of criminal negligence it’s something altogether different.

DeSantis is good at his job. He takes it seriously, not as a foundation for photo-ops.

Ah yes, but his hair isn't as nice. And what's his net worth? And he has the audacity to call himself a governor?

firefighters in Los Angeles were not pre-deployed to risk spots

And, when they did arrive the hydrants were empty.

A reservoir that provided water to the highly fire-prone area was empty - supposedly for a month for repairs for the cover, almost a year later, it was still empty.

"The Santa Ynez Reservoir near Pacific Palisades was empty during the recent wildfires due to ongoing repairs to its cover, which had torn, allowing debris and pollutants to enter the basin. The reservoir, with a capacity of 117 million gallons, had been out of commission since February 2024. This situation contributed to firefighters struggling with low water pressure and dry hydrants as they battled the blaze, ultimately leading to the destruction of over 5,000 structures."

the people who vote for Noisome are Democrats. TO change their votes they would have to admit to themselves that their voting habits are what caused the putrid mess that is Kalifornia today and that they only have themselves to blame. Their egos cannot acknowledge that obvious truth, so they continue to vote Democrat and the situation gets worse, so they desperately find in their minds someone else to blame. They will never blame themselves for the giant sh!tpile that they voted themselves into. Never. Which is why I say and have said on multiple occasions that Democrat voters are incapable of learning from their mistakes. You can only learn from your mistakes if you admit that you have made a mistake in the first place.

Newsom & Bass deserve a lot of criticism. So does the LAFD. My father retired from the LAFD about 50 years ago and would be sick to see what it has become.

However, there is a big difference between staging resources ahead of a snowstorm and putting fire fighting resources...where? The Palisades fire could have occurred nearly anywhere in LA's mountainous regions: Baldwin Hills, Santa Susanna foothills, Chalk Hills, Dominguez Hills, Chino Hills, Palos Verde Hills, Hollywood Hills, anywhere in the Santa Monica or San Gabriel mountains, Verdugo hills and others. The idea that there could have even been sufficient resources to be staged across this vast geographical area, putting firefighters where there was no fire and still providing necessary services across the rest of the region, is preposterous.

The faults lie in inadequate forest management, maintenance of infrastructure and a fire department focused on DEI.
