Donald Trump and Joe Biden exchanged smiles for the cameras as they met at the White House on Monday morning ahead of the president-elect formally taking power.
The president-elect and Melania Trump walked up the front stairs hand-in-hand, where President Biden and first lady Jill Biden awaited them.
'Welcome home,' Biden told Trump.
The two couples shook hands and briefly posed for pictures, looking visibly cold in the wind. Unlike eight years ago, when Melania arrived with a gift wrapped in Tiffany blue for Michelle Obama, she was empty-handed when she greeted Jill Biden.
The two couples will enjoy coffee and tea in the White House residence before riding to the Capitol together for Trump's inauguration.
When Biden leaves the White House, it will be his last time as president. Trump takes the reins at noon ET.
Ahead of the president-elect's arrival, Biden told reporters he was feeling 'good. It’s a beautiful day.' He said his message for the day was 'joy' and 'hope.'
He also confirmed he wrote a letter for Trump that will be awaiting the new president when he enters the Oval Office. When Biden was asked what was in it, he replied: 'That’s between Trump and me.'
He and wife Jill Biden took one last selfie outside of the Oval Office before departing the building, posting it to the White House social media accounts.

You think Jill will give the same brush-off that Michelle gave?
Couldn’t they have just left them under the mat?
Jill does not seem Ghetto like Big Mike. For all her faults she at least tries to act like a lady.
Lol!
Joe said, Every time i try blowing something up by pushing that red button in the Oval Office, they bring me a Diet Coke.
WORST AirBNB customer EVER!
Thought they’d NEVER leave!
Biden apparently told Trump and Melania “Welcome Home!”
I am throughly convinced that Biden voted for Trump in the recent POTUS election. Probably in 2016 too.
I am eating this up.
*high five*
“Oh, I dunno, Joe. Give yourself some credit. A lot folks think you did blow things up over the last four years.”
I will never forget that Vogue featured both Michelle Obama and Jill Biden on its cover several times while they were First Ladies - but never the elegant and graceful Melania Trump:
Compare these two:
To this:
cbs news-—The inaugural ceremonies of the president-elect and vice president-elect are planned by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. Led this year by Sen. Amy Klobuchar, a Democrat from Minnesota, the committee oversees eight events on Inauguration Day:
the procession to the Capitol;
the vice president’s swearing-in ceremony;
the president’s swearing-in ceremony;
the inaugural address;
the honorary departure of the outgoing president and vice president;
the signing ceremony, during which the new president signs nominations, memorandums, proclamations or executive orders;
the inaugural luncheon;
and the pass in review, during which the president and vice president review military troops before leading the parade down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House.
The theme of this year’s ceremonies is “Our Enduring Democracy: A Constitutional Promise.”
We all know they bugged every single thing in the WH.
And, probably farted on everything too.
White House trailer park trash OUTGOING!
The theme of this year’s ceremonies is “Our Enduring Democracy: A Constitutional Promise.”
Excellent, excellent, excellent.
Kick the door in at 4:00 AM tomorrow morning, while also having the doors kicked in for the agents who raided Mar-A-Lago.
“Feels great don’t it?”
It does feel great and I applaud the Bidens for doing it right.
Ha haaaaaaa! Classic!
This has the makings of a great Bee article.
“Joe leaves key under doormat.”
The more I think about it, the more I think this 4 year break between Trump 45 and Trump 47 may have been a blessing.
