Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul joined TikTok on Saturday to protest the app's impending ban.
Paul proceeded to post a singular video to his account, explaining why he had joined the app just as it is about to go offline.
"Why am I joining TikTok just as the government ban begins?" Paul said in the video. "Because I don't like being told what to do. I don't like being told what I can think or what I can say. The courts may think there's an exemption to the First Amendment. I don't. I joined TikTok today as a form of civil disobedience. To the 170 million Americans who use TikTok: Don't give up, don't give in. Resist."

His account on the platform, @randpaul, had over 93,300 followers as of Saturday at 4:30 p.m. His account was also already seen to be verified in the short time that he had been on it, a designation that TikTok gives to the accounts of famous and notable people to avoid being confused with impostor accounts.

You can’t separate Chinese apps from the Chinese government. China believes in total warfare and getting information from apps is all part of that.
The rage against TikTok young people use it to make money and in these tough economic times you take away a source of revenue for them.
Raging against Communist China after doing business with Communist China all these years.
I’ve always knew China was Communist but a whole slew of Republican Presidents (Nixon,Ford,Reagan,Bushes) did business with China making China what it is today.
If President Trump wants to keep TikTok up cut some deal etc. good for him.
My take is that the gov likes all the intel that smart phone social networking gives them and they don’t want to let the Chinese have ir
Your boy kind of looks like a clown here….
We are not going to flock to Meta products. After all, back in 2020, you'll get suspended just for supporting Trump on Facebook.
The world is a big place. So we will just use apps that are not in the U.S.
A guy living in Kazakhstan can probably create a TikTok clone and we will eventually find that app.
So our government will have to ban that one as well.
So it'll be a game of whack-a-mole.
I guess even a working clock is wrong twice a day, too…
Thank you, Senator, for speaking truth.
It's not the first time he's done that to himself. I haven't forgiven him or Marsha Blackburn for changing their plan to reject Biden's electors on January 6th. Both of them bought into the scenario created by the media about what had happened inside the Capitol Building before the vote. He's all talk.
Every business in China is connected to the Chinese government to some extent. It’s wrong and, dare I say, unAmerican to bar our citizens from accessing Chinese apps, news sites, or other forms of communication.
Rand Paul is right. I hope and believe these censorship efforts will fail.
Next step is to petition Congress to change the law.
Especially now that we have a taste with TikTok being banned for a day or two.
Download the Lemon8 app. I did, and it felt like I just gave a small slap in the face to the Congressional deep state.
It may fail, but I think you lack appreciation of the degree that the CHinese use these apps to collect information in the event of a war. With these apps, for example, China will know when and where to attack to defeat the US with one shot because they know where and when to do the maximum damage.
I don’t support the Goverment messing with the Internet at all.
SAME BULLCRAP AS RHE PATRIOT ACT.
Not with CHina, as far as I’m concerned.
You can’t separate Chinese apps from the Chinese government.
But apparently, you CAN easily separate bioweapons research, banking, manufacturing, everything at Walmart, all of our prescription medications, I-phones, Ring doorbells, smart TVs, the US Army at the Wuhan military games, our universities filled with Chinese, Chinamen walking freely across the border in the hundreds of thousands, childbirth tourism, Boeing, solar panels, 400,000 acres of US farmland, rare earth minerals, Tesla, etc from the Chinese government.
Don’t expect me to get spun up about the Chinese threat until the US government also acts like it it’s a threat to Wall Street, our bankers, our CEOs, etc.
It’s like the same way Obama lectures us on rising seal levels, and then buys a house at the beach, or John Kerry lectures us about climate and flies a private jet.
You want me to be excited about some new threat, live like YOU believe it’s real, then maybe we can talk.
Our own Government violates the 4th Ammendment EVERY dmm day.
