The article contains a lie about the percentage of suicides committed with guns.
The percentage of suicides committed with guns dropped from a high of 61.1% in 1991 to a low of 47.5% in 2018.
This happened while the per capital number of guns increased by 73%, from about .78 to 1.35.
I thought all that “Lawlessness and Chaos” was done away with by the Democrats back in 1968!
“Today we begin to disarm the criminal and the careless and the insane. All of our people who are deeply concerned in this country about law and order should hail this day.”-— Lyndon Johnson signing the 1968 gun control act into law.
And Thomas J. Dodd, who wrote the 1968 gun control act using the 1938 Nazi weapons law as a pattern...
“No one can predict how many lives will be spared because of this bill, but, if the bloody record of our yesterdays is any measure, millions of future Americans will live to enjoy the promise of many peaceful tomorrows.
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to play a part in this great moment in our time.”— Thomas J. Dodd on passage of the 1968 Gun control act.
Satisfied? In stead they went to the next step in banning guns, then the next and next....When they thought they had banned A-s-s-sault Rifles they made a grab for single shot .50 Cal rifles. They will never be satisfied till they have all of them banned.
Decades ago it was found that in states with waiting periods to buy guns, the suicide rate with guns took a big drop. Problem was those who had to wait still killed themselves by other means. As one police chief said years ago about the suicides by other means....”But they did not Shoot Themselves!” Therefore the law worked.
I remember decades ago of a city which had several murders over one weekend! The Chief of Police immediately called for “MORE GUN CONTROL!”
Problem was none of the murders were committed with a firearm.
Excellent points.
The opponents do not object to suicide, per se.
They object to suicide committed with guns. It is right out of 1984.
Wisconsin needs to start a bullet counseling program whereby all bullets undergo counseling and are instructed not to be mean or hurt people prior to being sold or loaded into cartridges.
The only way to peacei. Is through niceness.
