Michigan Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt (R) launched his gubernatorial bid on Tuesday, becoming the first Republican to jump into the race ahead of the 2026 midterms.

“Michiganders deserve so much better than what they’re getting from these Democrats up in Lansing,” Nesbitt said in an announcement video. “What we’ve seen is higher taxes, more spending, more debt, and less jobs.”

In the video, Nesbitt detailed his family’s history of farming in Lawton, located in the southwest region of the state.

Additionally, Nesbitt called for an end to the state’s eclectic vehicle mandates, greater investment in manufacturing, and a ban on sanctuary cities.

Rule of thumb:

Even at the state legislative level, you don’t get to be the #1 Republican (Speaker or majority leader or minority leader or whatever) if you are a solid conservative. Because you won’t get the votes. There are probably exceptions to the rule, but good luck finding very many.

Nesbitt is somewhere between squishy moderate and righteous conservative, closer to squish. Then again, the last solid conservative to run statewide in Michigan and WIN was....? Obviously not Rick Snyder, LOL.

It matters. When the Lesbian witch got “elected” as AG the GOP run MI Legislature passed a bill that would limit the damage she could do once she took over. The RINO Governor sat on it and vetoed it on his last day in office.

And as far as “becoming the first Republican to jump into the race”, isn’t Mike Cox already in?

Cox was a 2-term Attorney General (2003-2010) who, being term-limited, ran for Governor in 2010 and finished 3rd in the GOP primary behind Rick Snyder (liberal scumbag) & Pete Hoekstra (somewhat conservative). Cox seems to be a decent conservative, very likely more so than Hoekstra.

ANY of those guys would have easily beaten unhinged ultra-liberal Democrat Virg Bernero that year, but unfortunately the worst option prevailed on the right.

The people in this state have been screaming for decades for constitutional carry.
The bush league chamber of commerce worshipping republiCANT’s are dead set against it.
I will never vote for a republiCANT in this state again.
Bring us constitutional carry, or stay home

If we are caring about physical appearance, why not push for 2020 Senate candidate John James... the young black man who basically won the entire state of Michigan except for the greater Detroit, where the urban population voted overwhelmingly for a fat pasty white man, instead of a young dynamic local (Southfield) black man who could have made history as the first 5th Black Senator. (We have only ever had 4 or less.)

The Detroit metro area gave more votes to Sen Gary Peters than they did for President Barack Obama... NOT AT ALL an indicator of more 2020 election shenanigans!!!

John James took 74 of the 83 counties... basically everything but Detroit, Detroit suburbs, Ann Arbor... and tiny Yooper town Marquette for some reason.
