Daniel Horowitz on the Speaker Fight
Twitter ^ | January 1, 2025 | Daniel Horowitz

Here are my thoughts on the speaker's fight:

1) Yes, we certainly want to hit the ground running, but running towards what? Nothing more than tax cuts and nothing else like every other GOP admin? Let's first nail down some commitments.

2) There is a two week lag time between Congress convening and Trump being inaugurated so there is some time to sort this out. Again, at a minimum, Johnson should be forced to make some commitments. Remember, this is already someone who has not only betrayed us on every must-pass bill, but gratuitously gave the left what they wanted with FISA and Ukraine with nothing in return. So it's not like we are starting with a fresh slate.

3) Whatever arguments you may have on this issue, try to be consistent. Meaning, we can't go through 4 years where a bunch of paid influencers are saying, "Johnson is the worst. He must go," and then three seconds later Trump endorses him and then suddenly everyone else making the points you made until 3 seconds ago are the new dirt bags. Actually believe in your own talking points, otherwise we can't formulate ideas in good faith.

Maybe Trump got some commitments from him that we’re not privy to.

That should have been obvious that would have been the first thing that President Trump would do.

What are you basing that on?

The are so precious few that courageously oppose Johnson. If I were one, I’d hold the line. So whatif the Uniparty takes me out. It’s a short distance from a handful to none.

And one more time. There is no solution to $37T in debt and its compounding interest.

Further, nothing can be achieved in spending cuts because no such thing can get 60 votes in the Senate.

Buy farmland.

Is that what Trump did before he endorsed Paul Ryan for Speaker in 2016? How did that work out?

I would frankly like to see Newt Gingrich voted in as Speaker of the House. One does not have to be a member of the House to hold that position; he has experience both in the House and as Speaker. He would be supportive of President Trump. He is not afraid to ruffle tail feathers and would be fearless to “upset” any of the Representatives.

Bill Bennett protege

that was 8 years ago
Trump was a novice

It’s not that complicated. Trump simply assumes if he endorses you, you will be loyal to him. If trump did get committments he would be bragging about it. He is not that sophisticated. Johnson is on the ropes but there is no alternative, so he saves Jonny and assumes he will be loyal to him. Didn’t work with Ryan but Trump never learns as much as you want to think he learns. He knows everything he wants to know. If he learned anything he would have Bannon make all his appointment. The one guy other than Trump himself who got him elected in 2016 got cut loosed by Trump at the first hint of media criticism, went to jail for him and is still loyal. Unfortunately no one can point to one example of Trump “learning” anything.

Trump bragged that he was an outsider and that that was an advantage. And it may have been if he had built any alliances with good patriots before having to make choices that would cause huge damage because he chose enemies instead of supporters. Oh well, you get what you get.

But who is the alternative? That’s the practical question.

More pretzel twisting in support of the idea that Trump is always right about everything.

Who cares? The Uniparty is going to wish for infinite wishes. PDJT says he wants to abolish the debt ceiling.

The spending limit should be the revenue but instead it's gonna be the fevered wild dreams of the pork pirates!

“We’re supposed to support someone who stabs us in the back at every opportunity?”
______________
Exactly!
Johnson is NOT TRUSTWORTHY to carry out MAGA centric policies!
He needs replaced, regardless of PDJT’s most recent support.
How many times do Republicans need to be stabbed in the back?
This may be our Country’s last chance to right the ship!!

No, I’m not pretzel twisting. Trump is certainly not always right, but we really don’t know everything that goes on behind the scene. We’re not likely to end up with someone better than Johnson right now, & there’s business to be attended to. We all just have to pay attention & scream bloody murder, as with the CR & H1B visa controversies, to let them know what we expect & what won’t be tolerated.

When push comes to shove, I wonder how “Ohio” will do. When the deep states gets lucky (only needs to be lucky once), JDV may have to be the one with the steel backbone.
