New York correctional officers pummeled handcuffed prisoner before death, video shows

Newly released video of a fatal New York prison beating shows correctional officers repeatedly pummeling a handcuffed inmate, striking him in the chest with a shoe, and lifting him by the neck and dropping him.

Body-worn camera footage of the Dec. 9 assault on Robert Brooks was made public Friday by the state’s attorney general, who is investigating the officers' use of force.

Brooks, 43, was pronounced dead at a hospital the morning after the assault at the Marcy Correctional Facility, a state prison in Oneida County.

Thirteen correctional officers and a nurse implicated in the attack will face termination, according to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who said she was “outraged and horrified” by videos of the “senseless killing.”

The footage made public Friday shows correctional officers repeatedly punching Brooks in the face and groin as he sits handcuffed on a medical examination table.

WARNING! The video is hard to watch.

It's obvious to me that this type of action is normal for the officers participating in the beating. Not one officer attempted to stop the others from what they were doing.

Whoever was secretly recording took a big risk in doing so.

Isn’t this the same state that manufactures phony legal charges against people they don’t like politically?

I would think that pre-emptive action against agents of this thugocracy would be OK in my book.

They're "Clown Girl" Hochul's thugs.

She'd order them to do the same thing to President Trump if she could get away with it.

Every one who watched should spend time in jail. Anyone who hit or was rough with him should go to jail for 20 years. Cops need to protect even criminals. No excuse, we are all made in the image of God. This is horrible.

We go to an Amish market near a prison. It’s known as a “destination facility” because it is so low security. The CO’s get lunch there and even they claim CO’s are the lowest of the LEO bunch which is why they will only take a job in a minimum security facility or tried to get transferred there ASAP. They do it for the pension.

Why didn’t the “good cops” intervene?

That was absolutely unconscionable and gratuitous. Those ‘officers’ (and the ones standing around) need to be fired and prosecuted

> They do it for the pension. <

A guy I know (a good guy, as far as I can tell) resigned his police officer position to become a prison guard.

When I asked him why, he said you were dealing with the same trash in both jobs. But there’s way more opportunity for lucrative overtime in prison work. So I guess there’s that.

Stupid thing to do. Probably more to the story as a whole that lead up to this. Not an excuse for the guards, but whats the whole story, not just a snip of one.

"Why didn’t the 'good cops' intervene?"

Because this happened in the Demonicrat cesspool of New York, not in the rainbow unicorn world of Hollywood's "Blue Bloods."

There were no “good cops” in this incident. There is no audio so we can’t hear what was being said, but I don’t see anyone trying to stop the officers from killing the man.

The closest to being “excused” in any way, is the one videoing. We don’t know if that was an officer, a nurse, or just a staff member. We don’t know what type of authority they may have had. But, I would have been screaming and yelling “What the hell do you think you are doing?!!” no matter how low on the “totem pole”.

There are so many ways to control an inmate that most comply long before any physical persuasion is used.

It’s a failure if they have to resort to physical persuasion of this nature if the inmate is being peaceful, even if non-compliant.

Yep, you never know, maybe he spit in their faces or something. Not that it would justify their actions, but still.

I had kin who worked as a prison guard in Texas. He said that after a short while the guards become just as callous and hardened as the criminals they guard.

When a bunch of you handcuff a man with his hands behind him, carry him into a room, and then proceed to beat him until he is dead, there is no defense.

One more thing, no one should jump to conclusion about what caused his death like sir Floyd.

I agree. Handcuffing and beating someone is wrong. But..... Was this a paid for "hit" or a guy the guards were done dealing with his attitude?

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

Or ask for a transfer to Florida where the inmates kill the guards instead.

I'd have to hear the whole background to the story. A selective video of a felon being corrected by correction officers is not enough to convince me one way or the other.

In the thug culture the worst offense is "disrespecting" someone. My guess is that this criminal disrespected a correctional officer.
