Perhaps I don’t travel enough, but every airport I’ve been through, Aircrew had to provide ID. Perhaps the trip to and from Hawaii is more dangerous?
I was flying out of Phoenix a few years ago and was seated on the plane when I realized that the Delta service counter gave me the wrong boarding pass.
Three times airport and TSA security looked at my passport and boarding pass side by side and never noticed that they were two totally different names.
The only reason it was caught was that the actual ticked passenger told me that I was in his seat. I was. Now I just use my phone and have no problems.
