The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear arguments that a law that would effectively ban TikTok if its parent company does not sell the popular social media app violates the U.S. Constitution's free speech protections.
The Supreme Court scheduled oral arguments in the case for Jan. 10. That is nine days before the law targeting the app, which is used by an estimated 170 million Americans, is set to take effect.
The law would require TikTok's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app or force Google, Apple, and other platforms to stop supporting the app in the United States.
Congress passed the law, the Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, due to concerns that TikTok's Chinese ownership presented a national security risk.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit upheld the law on Dec. 6, ruling that the DOJ had "offered persuasive evidence demonstrating that" the divestment law "is narrowly tailored to protect national security."
The Supreme Court on Wednesday said it would hear challenges to the law filed jointly by TikTok and ByteDance, as well as by a group of TikTok users.

And the arrest warrants for violating national security are for what and who?
What the US can do to TikTok could be done by China to any US company.
I’m sure it’s coincidental that the timing is when Trump’s about to resume office.
In Trump’s first term, weren’t they going to require TikTok’s Chinese owners to sell it to an American buyer? Whatever happened with that?
Good riddance to that Platform of unrestrained Defamation.
The adults are back in charge.
Brian, China has already done all it needs, because every “foreign” company in China is partly owned by China, so it already being covered.
They already have mandates to get or lockdown all Chinesw data.
“What the US can do to TikTok could be done by China to any US company.”

They are very good at twisting facts into any falsehood they like when they are out to get you.
I was checking that pesky constitution thingie, and right off the bat, I found this...
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Kinda self explanitory...
If you believe in that pesky constitution thingie..
“Good riddance to that Platform of unrestrained Defamation.”
It is not just TikTok. It carries a very wide brush that can be twisted and applied to almost every domain they want. It is a Trojan Horse bill. I can’t believe how many actually believe this will only affect TikTok. So many are allowing themselves to be played like a fiddle... “The TikTok bill” is a complete fraud and misrepresentation.
We can say the same thing about FR. The government gets the power to ban FR according to the bill.
“The government gets the power to ban FR according to the bill.”
Yep, absolutely. Not one domain, website, or server hosting is immune from it.
The law would require TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app or force Google, Apple, and other platforms to stop supporting the app in the United States.
The law would not affect the “170 million user” who have already have Tic Tok. Only those who want to down load the app.
You do not need the app to view videos. Just go to their website. This was a dumb law put in place by old men and woman who have no clue how the internet works.
There are plenty of outlets for American speech. Getting rid of Tik-Tok just reverts to the speech opportunities we had before it (and all of the Internet) existed. There is no right to a propaganda machine that’s used predominantly by children

What happens when the app receives no support? It eventually dies. Also, the key to the propaganda spread is because of the push tech of the app. The website requires people to actually visit it, and YouTube is already the go -to app for that
Let's ban X and FR after we get rid of TikTok.
We have free speech over at Facebook.
Right?
Trump became an absolute icon on Tik Tok this year. The Trump dance was all over TT about 1.5, 2 months prior to the election and heavy coverage of it elsewhere. Trump supporting warriors were on there every single day, battling back the lies and agenda of the left. I credit TT with having its rather huge part in his election and reaching the younger generation.

Absolute truth. It being owned by a Chinese company made absolutely no difference did it? The bill is ironic and all based on myth.
I remember seeing the Trump dance articles appearing here shortly after the election and my only thought was, “Come on, guys, where y’all been? This has been a hugely viral trend for the last 2 months!”
Unfortunately it was hypocrisy and a double standard. When it was actually good for us we liked it and cheered for it even though it was on TikTok.
