The British wife of Syria’s deposed president Bashar al-Assad, Asma al-Assad, has filed for divorce after expressing dissatisfaction with her life in Moscow, Turkish and Arab media reported Sunday. She reportedly seeks to move to London.

The Syrian Law of Personal Status allows Muslims to practice polygamy if the man has a valid reason and can financially support both wives..
If Assad had stayed in power for 30 more years that remora of a woman would have been stuck at his side like glue.

She couldn’t leave in Syria.
At least not alive.
Imagine you are fabulously wealthy with accounts in various banks all over the world.
Assad can’t access those funds from Russia, which is under massive banking sanctions. Assad also has to worry about arrest by either the ICC or some crusading Spanish, French or German prosecutor if he goes to Europe.
Assume she is totally loyal to him. And he totally trusts her. This is exactly the path they would choose.
She divorces him, she gets access to billions in assets, and is relatively untouchable by the ICC and national courts.
Think like a criminal couple for a minute.
He was still ascendung toward peak income at that time. Now he’s just slightly past it.
