NASA delays rescue operation for stranded astronauts on ISS until at least March

NASA on Tuesday announced that it would delay its rescue mission for two astronauts who have been stranded on the International Space Station (ISS), in order to “complete processing” on a new SpaceX spacecraft that will be used in the operation.

Astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore, who were only expected to be on the station for a week, have been stranded in space since June because of safety issues related to their Boeing spacecraft.

The two Americans were expected to be rescued in February, but the operation will now be delayed until at least late March. If they are rescued in late March as planned, Wilmore and Williams will have spent a total of nine months in space, per NBC News.

I wonder if these two astronauts are starting to get the message that they may not be coming back to earth.

Seriously, why would any sane person put their lives into NASA’s hands?

This delay is dangerous for them. Extended time in microgravity causes permanent damage.

As victims of circumstance, would they come back as heroes or just lucky to be alive?

Ground control to Major Tom...

That song immediately came to mind.

NASA, a government agency, is going to have to depend on Elon Musk and SpaceX to get these astronauts back on earth. That’s the same U.S. government that has about a dozen investigations and lawsuits going on against Musk and his companies.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Biden paid Reuters $300M for targeting Elon’s companies.

The Biden administration gave $300 million in government contracts to Reuters while eleven federal agencies investigated Elon’s businesses—Tesla, SpaceX, and X.

During this time, Reuters received millions from these agencies and won a Pulitzer Prize for reporting on “misconduct at Elon’s companies.”

It’s a coordinated effort by government and Democrats to undermine one of America’s most innovative leaders. They might want to back off. At least until SpaceX resolves their stranded astronaut problem.

They are getting paid. They’ll have fat accounts waiting for them if they can make it back.

They won't have any ‘real’ muscles left. It'll take some rehabilitation for sure.
I'm pullin' for 'em.

Fabrication, assembly, testing, and final integration of a new spacecraft is a painstaking endeavor that requires great attention to detail...

So its a kit???

Because NASA itself has a track record of success. The contractors they have to use however are sometimes a different story. The star liner rocket which is having issues was designed and built by Boeing, not NASA. The current delay in returning the astronauts is due to a schedule change for the next Space X / NASA flight from earth. Even though the astronauts could leave now (there is a Space X rocket docked with the Space Station), it was decided to let them stay and continue their research experiments until a new crew can launch in March.

Next time bring 2 / 50lb sacks of dog food. These astro-jockeys wish they had this now.

Let me tell you the story
Of a couple of travelers
On a tragic and fateful day
They kissed their families
Then they boarded a rocket
Went on a ride for the NASA

Will they ever return,
No they'll never return
And their fate is still unlearned
They may ride forever
In the heavens above
They're the spacers who'll never return

(Parody of M.T.A. by Kingston Trio)
