Hegseth says gay soldiers should serve in the military in latest policy pivot
The New York Post ^ | 12/13/2024 | Deirdre Bardoff

Posted on 12/14/2024 6:07:10 AM PST by thegagline

Donald Trump’s pick for defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, said gay people should be able to serve in the US military, in an apparent shift from his previous stance on the issue.

When asked by reporters Thursday if gays should serve in the military, the former Fox News host and National Guard captain replied, “Yes,” Politico reported.

Hegseth, who served tours of duty in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay as an infantry officer, previously called policies allowing openly gay people to serve part of a “Marxist,” social justice agenda.

In his 2024 book “The War on Warriors,” Hegseth wrote that the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy was a “gateway” and a “camouflage” for cultural changes that have undermined military effectiveness.

***

He has advocated for exiling military leadership who enforce diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives prioritizing social justice and blamed the “woke military” for the armed services’ recruiting crisis.

The shift comes as Hegseth recently praised women as some of the military’s “greatest warriors” and said his previous comments were “misconstrued.” ***

“Like President Trump, Pete wants to see the U.S. military focus on being the world’s strongest fighting force — not on cultural and social issues,” said Brian Hughes, a Trump spokesperson.

Trump has lauded his nominee as “tough, smart and a true believer in America First.”

Apparently, Hegseth feels strongly both ways. Welcome to the world of politics.

I wonder if the difference is between a person who is gay and a person who is transitioning.

“Don’t ask, don’t tell” wasn’t the worst policy in the world. Better than “Shout it out and wear it with pride!!”

He makes a point saying trannys are un deployable due to the drugs they need. I guess homos are deployable as long as they don’t need drugs to maintain their composure. Personally, I wouldn’t want them around, period, but the real issue are the nut case trannys. Some of them are quite high ranking. It is stupid. No one can deny that.

I work with a 25 year vet. He said he didn’t care about any of that as long as they were a good solider and did there job.
Not sure I completely agree, but the trans freaks need to go.

This article sounds like it was written by the NY Times rather than the Post.

Pete is against women in combat arms units. As most sane people are.

And, as he said, women are already in combat without even being in a combat arms unit.

I doubt Pete has ever been against gays in the military. Gays have always been in the military. It’s the programs that promote the “loud and proud” that are detrimental to the military.

In 1940, privates Trumper and Hegseth would have been found at the fromage factory 37 kilometers behind the Maginot Line.

Someone ask him if “gays” should repent of their disgusting, blasphemous, sodomy.

Homosexuals have been in the military since the beginning. What is wrong is the open celebration of the fact.

If you’re doing your job, fine. Just shut up about your sin

Most gays know that straight males aren’t interested, curious or inclined to even discuss man to man butt sex and fellatio. I have maybe 10 gay acquaintances and I can’t recall hearing even a single syllable on the subject with any one of them.

If they keep to that I am ok with them.

““Don’t ask, don’t tell” wasn’t the worst policy in the world. “

The “Don’t ask” policy was a transition policy - going from sane to insane. It wasn’t designed to last.

Once it was accepted by conservatives the poor frog was brought up to a boil.

Very disappointing. Is it so hard to understand a gay man, due to his lust for other men, will most likely be a detriment to his team?

That’s my take. Known gay men who were in the military (retired) before all of this now and they served their time without incident. The environment now is different and not workable.

Gays have always been in the military. NY Times food writer Craig Claiborne, who was gay, served in 2 wars.

Yep, in the world of politics, conservatives always move towards the center when in office,

while democrats, when in office, always stay solidly far-left.

Just a sad fact of life today.

“”””Gays have always been in the military.””””
“”””I doubt Pete has ever been against gays in the military.””””

Only in the sense that every hidden criminal and perversion has been in the military if they got past screening and before they were caught because that is true in all human groups.

Homosexuals were forbidden, all the men were screened to keep them from getting in, and then if they were detected, they were removed.

You are using a silly argument of the left and even think that Hegseth is supportive of the known weakening effect of homosexuals in the military.
Why were homosexuals banned for centuries and since the left introduced that worm into the military you now think that there was never any reason to be against it?

I served with a number of gay guys and there was never an issue. However, I never would have thought that it would have morphed into transsexuals....

Depends on the overall policy in the military.

I worked in a medium sized software company with a MAGA type Republican owner and CEO. We had probably 15% gays, about 1 in 6, 1 in 7 maybe. This in downtown Atlanta, pretty large gay population, so the company just reflected the overall population.

There was no clebrating diversity, no gay pride flags. Everybody was good at their job, everybody got along, everybody came in, kept their heads down and left at the end of the day.

In that kind of situation, I don’t see an issue.
