Georgian opposition rejects upcoming presidential elections, declares current President “sole legitimate leader” (Georgia, Eastern Europe)

All four Georgian opposition parties that secured seats in the October general elections on Thursday have rejected the legitimacy of the upcoming presidential elections on Saturday, calling the parliamentary vote “rigged” and reaffirming incumbent President Salome Zourabichvili as the country’s "sole legitimate leader".

In a joint statement, the Unity National Movement, Coalition for Change, and Strong Georgia condemned the forthcoming elections, while the Gakharia for Georgia group expressed its stance in a separate message.

Incumbent President Zourabichvili, the last one to have been elected by popular vote, will see her term expire next week.

The opposition’s joint statement claimed the Parliament “lacks the authority” for the election, asserting Zourabichvili remained the President of Georgia, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Georgian Defence Forces, and the nation’s primary representative in foreign relations.

The statement also accused Bidzina Ivanishvili, the Honorary Chair and founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party, of executing a “constitutional coup” following the general elections in October...

I know next to nothing about the Georgia situation but it seems strange to me to say President Zourabichvii’s term expires next week but the election to replace her somehow lacks legitimacy and she must therefore remain president.

Georgia has several Oblasts that are primarily Ethnic Russian.

At the fall of the Soviet Union, George W Bush allowed his notoriety to be used by Georgian Ethnic Muslims and grifting criminal Georgian Politician Mikheil Saakashvili to gain control of the Georgian Government.

They began to gear up for a Color Revolution and they violently put down dissenting Oblasts.

Russia backed the dissenting Oblasts' Militias, Saakashvili lost, fled Georgia and eventually was caught and imprisoned.

More Color Revolution tries were made, the Georgian People scrapped "Democracy" and wrote a Constitution that defined an Electoral College and Electors as the method of electing the President Of Georgia.

That is the election that will occur in the next few days.

I know next to nothing about the Georgia situation.

So what's happening in Georgia? I prefer to hear it from somebody without an agenda.

Can’t say I blame you. Basically, the Neocons (the clowns that gave us the Ukraine War and the Bloodbath now taking place in Syria) have spent close to 20 years trying to make Georgia into be a “Second Front” against Russia, so they’re bribing the opposition in Georgia to make fools of themselves, including this French chick who thinks she’s President of the country.

But too bad, the ELECTED Georgian government is wise to this crap, so the Neocons will have to find new countries to destroy, as Georgians want no part of it.

Thanks Bob, I believe the important development is that Georgians Legally installed an Electoral College and Designated Electors in numbers and classifications, as the means of electing the Georgian President.

This Legally Disempowers any "Democratic" Election Method and prevents "Democratic" Election Fixing and Theft.

Needless to say the Foreign Usurper Frog Broad and her supporters don't "recognize" and won't obey the Law.

Strangely Like American Prog Socialist Democrats.

I don't know much about Georgia but this looks like another deep state operation to instigate evil Putin/Russia. I don't trust the uni-party. Will they make Georgia into the next Ukraine?

Weather they can or can’t remains yet to be seen. But you can bet your ass that they are going to try. Evil never rests or sleeps. And these individuals are the evil of the evil.

Pro-Western opposition groups in Georgia have refused to accept results that hand victory to the increasingly authoritarian ruling party, after a pivotal election focused on the country’s future path in Europe.

The Georgian Dream party of billionaire businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili claimed outright victory and the central election commission said it had won 54% of the vote based on more than 99% districts counted.

Thanks for the BBC (and therefore EU) slant on things. It’s apparent that they don’t like the new Georgian Electoral College method of selecting their president.

From the BBC article:

Georgians had a simple choice, the party's founder (Bidzina Ivanishvili) said after voting in Tbilisi: either a government that served them, or an opposition of "foreign agents, who will carry out only the orders of a foreign country".
