The Safeway supermarket chain has announced that it will close down one of its key locations in San Francisco in February due to concerns that customers and employees were at risk from rampant theft and threats to their safety.
The closure, which had been put off for 11 months, will affect the Safeway store on Webster Street in the Fillmore section of San Francisco, which had been operating for the last 40 years.
The company said that the store will close for good on Feb. 7, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Steal my stuff and I’d leave too.
Exactly.
What a shame: the way of safety is no longer safe.
Food desert!!
They deserve to have a food desert.
Closing it before “Safeway” becomes known as “Stabway” or “Stealway”.
Great minds...
(rampant theft)
There are a LOT of people that think they have a “right” to steal from businesses
Food desert, pharmacy desert, clothing desert, fuel desert....😴. Take a bus. Not literally. Well, being frisco......
(or “Stealway”)
Too late for that!!
A food desert is just desserts for them.
Barack’s husband is not going to be happy about this.
All the Brothers were on the news last night playing the race card. But of course this is simply a cost benefit decision. Staying open is a huge safety risk to both employees and customers.
This was always one of the worst Safeway stores in the city, surprising it wasn’t closed decades ago
Kamala can go to work for Door Dash and deliver groceries to those neighborhoods losing their store...something she can handle..
Looking at the aerial photo, the 200+ parking lot is packed with cars.
Theft kills retail businesses.
Smart business decision.
If you thought Door Dash tip shaming was bad before, just wait until they hire Heels-Up.
“Safeway to close San Francisco supermarket over rampant theft, safety concerns”
Ruh Roh! ... yet ANOTHER food desert! ... perhaps, just perhaps if these criminals were arrested, convicted and thrown in jail for a few months for each offense, then there would be no food deserts ... after all, this store used to successfully operate in this location for 40 years ... apparently something changed though that made its future operation untenable ...
