Concern over Syria's chemical weapons stockpile triggers emergency meeting of global monitor

The global chemical weapons watchdog opened an emergency meeting on Thursday to discuss the situation in Syria over concerns about the country’s stockpile of toxic chemicals in the wake of the overthrow of President Bashar Assad.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons told Syria on Monday the country is under obligations to comply with rules to safeguard and destroy dangerous substances, such as chlorine gas, after rebels entered the capital, Damascus, at the weekend.

Assad’s regime denied using chemical weapons but the OPCW found evidence indicating their repeated use by Syria in the grinding civil war. Earlier this year, the organization found the Islamic State group had used mustard gas against the town of Marea.

In a rare move, the OPCW's executive council called the meeting, hoping that under a new government, some of its 80 inspectors may be allowed to pursue investigations into Syria's chemical weapons program.

I would have thought Israel has made a waste dump of those stockpiles by now.

“Islamic State used mustard gas against the town of Marea.”

Isn’t that the group who is in charge now?

Oh, you mean that stockpile of Saddam’s weapons?

Does everyone remember the shuttling, at night, of these weapons to Syria?

The MSM doesn’t.

Put Lindsey in charge and bring Liz Cheney back. We’ll have an invasion force on the ground by year end.

Are they inferring that Syria has the chemical weapons that were not existant and moved from Iraq?

Syria was just completely overtaken by radical Islamist terrorist rebel groups. Does anybody REALLY think they give two beans about a threatening letter regarding “responsible storage and destruction of chemical weapons”? Folks are really stupid.

That is why Israel has been blowing the crap out of facilities in Syria - warplanes, helicopters, tanks, and weapons storage facilities (including, if I understand correctly, at least one known chemical weapons storage facility).

Remember the semi trucks in convoys from Iraqi weapons facilities that went towards Syria? That after the 2nd Gulf War in Iraq, many claimed were NOT weapons and that Iraq had no chemical weapons (other than those secured by the US the first time around)? Yeah - Maybe Bush Jr. wasn’t lying after all....???

You mean... the ever-so-helpful Democrat Assistants, ie what we call RINOs? The lying and false accusations against the right started way before Trump, IOW.

How hard is it to make or import chlorine and how many industrial uses are there?

“ I guess the next question will be where or where did they come from.”

There were many reports of Iraqi trucks carrying chemical weapons into Syria after the desert storm war. Reports after reports of the US and UN suspecting it was chemical weapons, but never proved because the Iraqis refused to let inspectors see everything, so who knows what it was. It’s been a favorite lie for many years that there were no chemical weapons in Iraq, bush made it all up. But it’s well documented that Iraq had them and used them on his own people.

Mostly, but not completely. Almost al Republicans have basically tossed the WMD claims under the bus.
