The lawyer representing Luigi Mangione claims his client exploded outside a Pennsylvania courthouse because he was 'agitated' at a lack of legal representation...
As he was being led into the courthouse in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, Mangione, 26, yelled at reporters for being 'completely out of touch and an insult to the intelligence of the American people and their lived experience!'...
But speaking with Erin Burnett on her CNN show Wednesday night, defense attorney Thomas Dickey said his client was upset that he did not have legal representation at that point.
'He's irritated, agitated about what's happening to him and what he's being accused of,' Dickey said when Burnett pressed whether he would seek a not guilty plea by way of insanity.
'He never had any legal representation until he walked into that building yesterday.' ...

Pennsylvania is a state that doesn’t allow “hybrid representation”. You, as a defendant, at the beginning have a choice: go Pro Se (represent yourself) or retain a lawyer, once you hire a lawyer you can no longer represent yourself(in other words you can’t make your speeches to the court if you chose a lawyer to speak for you).
> The lawyer representing (whomever) claims… <
Anything that follows that phrase will always be some combination of truths, half-truths, and lies. It doesn’t matter who the defense lawyer is.
But, hey. That’s the way the system is supposed to work.
Entering into evidence dismissal on deprivation of rights
he is angry that his right to kill anyone he has a beef with is not being upheld.
Have fun!
Transfer him to Rikers with a cellmate.
“upset that he did not have legal representation at that point.” Pretty sure the dead guy feels the same way
I don’t think that would fly. Doesn’t he have to see a judge first anyway if his intent was to request a public defender? Or to request a continuance (delay proceeding) in order to secure counsel?
Whatever the reason, his little “Wild Man”: performance gave all the photographers plenty to talk about.
I keep reading that he has severe and chronic back pain, but I don’t see much evidence of it.
He moves as easily as a wolf hunting his prey in the dark.
So he murdered a guy in cold blood, premeditated, shot him in the back but he is angry about his treatment???
I was on a medical malpractice jury years ago. The plaintiff was looking for a big judgement. He forgot to limp when he made made his way to the sound. We found for the plaintiff, but not the big judgement he was seeking.
Always “guilt before innocence” right?
Nope, you can request a lawyer the moment you are arrested and mirandized. And they have to provide one before anymore legal proceedings.
The games people play for sympathy.
That attorney looks and acts LOOPEY!
Requesting a lawyer just means they can’t question you anymore. It’s very rare for a public defender to be assigned prior to the judge doing so at the arraignment.
Yes, I know that is how it works, but it is “supposed” to work immediately, just like calling a personal attorney. A personal attorney can come defend you or get you out immediately before arraignment if they haven’t got anything.
Just more proof that PDs work for them and not you. It is false representation.
An attorney can’t get you out of jail before the arraignment unless bail has been set , which rarely happens with major felonies.
That is not true, I could bond out before I was arraigned on one of my incidents, And it was a felony charge. That is what the “phone call” is all about. The difference is money or no money. If you have no money you are a victim of the system.
