Luigi Mangione, the suspect arrested in connection with the murder of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO, fell out of touch with some of his friends and family earlier this year, according to multiple media reports.

The loss in contact seemed to align with a back surgery Mangione underwent to treat chronic pain linked to a pinched nerve. R.J. Martin, the founder of a co-living space in Hawaii called Surfbreak, told the Honolulu Civil Beat that Mangione lived in the community, near Honolulu’s Ala Moana Beach Park, for six months in 2022.

Pain meds certainly can cause irrational thinking and behavior.

I thought it looked like one of those photos of him with a mountain in the background was taken in Hawaii and wondered if he had connections there or was just on vacation.

That one Trump wannabe assassin was from Hawaii.

When I was younger there was a crooked guy named Brimberry who ripped off a big St. Louis area company called Famous and Barr. He showed up out of the blue before that in a working class steel town suburb of St. Louis, bought some lots and built a frigging palace of a house amid mostly 1 story crackerbox homes. His house looked llike a castle among peasants, had the newest of everything and dogs and security fences. It wasn’t long before he owned every politician in the town, all Democrats of course. He owned the school board too, though I don’t remember anyone mentioning if he had kids.
He would send members of the school board on vacations to Hawaii, and their staff, etc. I knew of one lady who was always going to Hawaii for him and she would take bags of cash for him like a mule, probably what they all did. Evidently it was easier to get the money out of the US via Hawaii.

Eventually he got caught but his mules didn’t, and the company he was stealing from went under.

This guy who killed the executive had foreign currency on him, just wonder if he acquired that in Hawaii. Odd that there was no mention of what country issued the currency.

He’s another kid indoctrinated in our leftist Ivy league universities. He’s anti-capitalist while living a rich life because of capitalism and he’s a climate activist.

Well this little Bolshevik turd should get use to spending the next few decades in a cell with someone a million times more annoying that any company CEO.

Chronic pain causes changes to the psyche and lifestyle, and activities of daily living. From NYT updates:
...But, he said, he and others in the community came to understand that the
pain was no small matter to a 26-year-old man yearning for a normal lifestyle.
Shortly after he moved into Surfbreak, Martin said, Mangione took a group
surfing lesson and suffered such debilitating pain that Martin had to switch out
his mattress. Later, he said, Mangione confided that he had no relationship
because “he knew that dating and being physically intimate with his back
condition wasn’t possible. I remember him telling me that, and my heart
just breaks.”

“His spine was kind of misaligned,” Martin said. “He said his lower vertebrae
were almost like a half-inch off, and I think it pinched a nerve. Sometimes
he’d be doing well and other times not.”

R.J. Martin, a friend of Mangione who had lived with him in Honolulu, said
that the younger man eventually did get spinal surgery in 2023. But when
Martin asked via text how it had gone, Mangione had replied, “long story” and
did not elaborate. They last texted in April, he said, and promised to catch up
via phone, but did not. “Yo! You awake? “ Martin said he texted in late May.
Then on June 23: “Where in the world are you?”

What is it with Haoles living in Hawaii that travel to NYC to shoot people?

Mark David Chapman was another well known case.
I wonder if Mangione was carrying his requisite copy of The Catcher in the Rye?

I wouldnt wish back pain on my worst enemy.

Those posting about it who've never had chronic back pain, really should shut up, because you have no clue who or what you are dealing with.

If this is true then this ceo isn't the first person to get killed by a back pain sufferer.

back pain can 9ften not be seen on an xray or mri, numb legs, not being able to sleep more than a few minutes, unable to stand for even a few minutes, losing your job, thousands of dollars spent on different doctors and you get no relief.

It's an endless torture you can't get away from and your friends stop talking to you because you are always miserable. Legal pain meds are hard to get, it's a horrible way to live.

The guy if guilty he may have been driven to be a cold blooded killer and the death penalty may be a blessing for him.

As for the the CEO he killed? There's 1000 more just like him waiting in the wings to take his place.

I suspect he has an account with a big money center bank since he moved around quite a bit. They certainly would have a foreign currency exchange at a main branch. Also a major international airport would a foreign currency exchange.

He lived in Japan for a time after his back surgery. I don’t know if that’s where the foreign currency is from though.

I hurt my back years ago. And I was in constant pain. The only way I could drive was putting a can of Coke in the small in my back. No matter what position you were in, it hurt.
