What’s next for TikTok now that the App might get banned?
CNN ^ | Dec 7 | By Clare Duffy and Erika Tulfo, CNN

TikTok’s US-based users could have only a few more weeks to enjoy scrolling through their For You Page before the app is banned in the country starting on January 19, 2025.

A US appeals court on Friday upheld the law that requires TikTok to be sold off from its Chinese parent company ByteDance or face a ban, dealing a major blow to the social media platform that’s used by more than 170 million Americans.

Under the law, app stores could face major fines if they continue to host TikTok following the deadline, if it’s not sold. For users who already have the app downloaded, that likely means they could continue to use it for a while but would not be able to receive updates, which would eventually make it buggy and potentially useless.

While the ruling increases the likelihood that TikTok will be banned, it’s not a done deal just yet.

TikTok indicated that it plans to appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court. “The Supreme Court has an established historical record of protecting Americans’ right to free speech, and we expect they will do just that on this important constitutional issue,” TikTok spokesperson Michael Hughes said in a statement Friday.

How will the Supreme Court rule on this?

I think it could be a very close one as the intolerant liberals will vote against it while constitutional conservatives wont so that leaves ACB or Kavanagh (Bushie).

The so called conservatives might join the liberals on this one.

After all it passed Congress this way and there is support for it even here.....

It shouldn’t be banned. Without TiKTok, we wouldn’t have had libs of TikTok, and that and effort of Twitter to cancel libs of TikTok blew up Twitter, gave us X and gave us Trump.

They’ll change the name to TalkTalk, and continue on as if nothing happened.

Why is it hard to call? It's unconstitutional.

Now you see why they want to ban TikTok. They're coming after X next.

But until they do, this will be a tremendous windfall for X.

We cause we know the CCP is using it to collect data on every American user.

TikTok wouldn’t need to be banned if the CCP would agree to sell it to an American owner, but they won’t. They’d rather let it die because they don’t care about the money, the value of that app to them is its ability to allow them to spy on every user around the world.

Because lots of conservatives support it and voted for it

So I worry “conservative” justices like ACB, Kavanagh or Roberts will be inclined to join them citing national security.

It really depends how these few people feel and what they decide.

Crazy situation ...

Chicoms use it for asymmetric warfare.

They would rather trash it than sell it to a non-Chicom entity.

Like Chicom EV’s, it’s not produced to earn money.

Free speech is doomed if this is allowed to happen. This is EXACTLY how China started their strict internet and speech control over the people. It started “for the kids”, then it went to “Social Safety”, then “anti-government sentiments”.

Once that door is opened they will take it all. When have they NOT abused and expanded their power over the people’s rights.

If anyone actually thinks they will stop at just TikTok they are a fool. It is just the beginning of the end. This bill hands WAY too much power of the internet to whoever happens to be holding the position of U.S. dictator.

I agree but we’re not the lawmakers and a cadre of 3 judges will decide & one or two are Bush loyalists so this is on a knife edge I believe...

Every device made has come with Parental Controls by default for decades now. So there is no need to pass a universal law on everyone across the board and remove free speech for adults. If they want to make a difference, make it a crime for Parents who do not use those years long available parental controls to protect their own children.

This is a Trojan Horse for government to take over control of the whole internet and destroy free speech.
