Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan announced Friday that he is stepping aside in his bid for another term as leader. The move follows months of escalating criticism from MAGA conservatives within his party, who have sought to remove him from power and reshape the House’s leadership.
Phelan, who claimed he had the votes to fend off a challenge from former ally Rep. David Cook, withdrew just a day before the GOP caucus was set to choose its speaker nominee regardless. Infamously, Phelan assisted the failed plot to impeach and remove the Lone Star State’s America First Attorney General, Ken Paxton.

Phelan survived - with the help of Democrat voters - but almost all of his key allies got picked off. He was NOT going to win the speakership again.
Agreed, GOOD TO SEE HIM GO !!!
...And down goes, Phelan! Phelan is DOWN!!!!
I was just thinking last night how such a compromised RINO can get into the most powerful position in the Texas Legislature. And then it hit me - Democrats. Democrats make up around 42% of the legislature. They know they will have very little power and almost no chance of being selected as Speaker, and so they coalesce around the most RINO-ish “Republican” they can strike a deal with. The remaining RINO’s make up the difference.
This is outstanding, as Democrat ass-kisser Phelan will no longer be Speaker.
The guy who is going to replace him as Speaker (Rep. David Cook) is no fire-breathing conservative either, but he hopefully will not bend over backwards to appease Democrats — for no reason at all — by giving them juicy committee chairmanships which goes a long way towards thwarting any conservative legislation in Texas.
If Texas is able to choose a Speaker that doesn’t need Democrat votes, or threats of Democrat votes (as was the case of Phelon), to win the job, then I agree it will be a huge victory.
...let’s see what happens.
Good news TX.
Fingers crossed.
The way this year is going so far, I have high hopes of a real conservative getting in.
Fantastic news!
The cleanup of TX politics has started.
Its going to take 10 years but getting rid of the Bush Family was a good place to start.
Trump winning made all the difference.
Paxton is the man!
Rove’s puppet is kaput.
Maybe now we get Republicans as committee heads!
Excellent.
It looks Phelan and his rino buddy figured out that they would split the rino vote and allow a true maga to become Speaker. A lesson our side seems incapable of learning. This is not a win just yet.
See tagline.
He looks like Butt-Head, wonder who is his Bevis?
