Being a member of the President’s cabinet is an important job: in their roles as the leaders of key executive-branch agencies, the 15 department heads who work with the Vice President to advise the President can end up driving vital policies. So it makes sense that cabinet nominees must first go through tough questioning from the Senate, which ultimately decides whether or not they get the job.
President Trump’s opponents got a hint of hope this week that the process may trip up some of his nominees, as two Republican Senators announced they would not support the candidacy of Betsy DeVos for Secretary of Education. But, despite the fact that hearings can often consist of hours of rapid-fire and intense questioning, the President usually gets his way when it comes to his cabinet appointees—and that will likely be the case for DeVos too. In fact, there have only been nine nominees in the history of the presidential cabinet who have been denied confirmation by the Senate, and only one of those rejections was in recent history.
In 1989, when U.S. Senator John Tower was denied the job of Secretary of Defense under George H.W. Bush, that was the first time such a rejection had taken place in 30 years. And, nearly 30 years later, it still remains the most recent.

They should be careful with this strategy, because it can have unknown consequences.
Because the Democrats defeated John Tower, Dick Cheney becomes Defense Secretary, opening up the House Whip position, which Newt Gingrich won. Then he’s number two in 1994, minority leader Bob Michaels retires, Republicans take the house and Bam! Gingrich is Speaker.
“Republican Senators announced they would not support the candidacy of Betsy DeVos for Secretary of Education.”
All the more reason to shut down the DoED as Reagan wanted to do. The classic GOPe/RINO/uniparty at work here.
Conservative Senators better start twisting the arms of about six of their colleagues. Refuse them committee assignments, block bills that benefit their states, threaten to leak damaging information about their personal life, or do whatever it takes to get Trump’s cabinet picks installed.
It’s not the Democrats that stop a conservative agenda from being advanced, it is GOP establishment Senators. Look back over the years of each time we have given the GOP the WH, Senate, and House. Whose agenda advanced? Look where we as a nation and society are now, and you have your answer.
The game is to not let Trump cease power in any shape or form! They want to neuter and hinder him of any MAGA powerful candidates. Do you really think the DC swamp was gonna relinquish power that easy? These are heinous power hungry nasty evil people from both sides that will chew you up and spit you out. Don’t think for one minute Trump is going to be received with open arms from our party at the hill! They hate him and the American people along with using us only on when their re-election day comes! They are despised across this nation and we’re hopeful that Trump‘s victory would’ve cement the power of the people but unfortunately it looks like it’s not going to happen that easy. And to top it off the RNC dropped the ball by letting some of those crucial races slipped through their hands because they continue to cheat. Now we only have a three house advantage and any republican person can hold their vote in a power move to menace Trump when they just don’t like the Bill he wants past or they want more goodies to be included. Sadly the RNC, Lara and Whatley royally drop the ball!
