In July, the United Kingdom held a general election that on the surface looked to be as consequential as the one we had here in the U.S. in November. After 14 years of Conservative Party leadership, the Labour Party won an astonishing number of seats in Parliament, but because of the UK’s system, which awards seats to the recipient of a plurality of votes — and as many as six parties fielding candidates — many of these new members of Parliament won with as little as 35% of the vote.
It didn’t take long for Britons to sour on this new Labour government. Even though the Tories (Conservatives) still have a low favorability rating, Labour’s leaders saw a significant drop in net favorability less than two months after the election.
Now an online petition has surfaced with over 2 million signatures urging the Labour government to call for a new election. Some of the signatures may be fake — Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s name appears as a signatory — but it’s still a clear message from at least some British voters.
“‘I would like there to be another General Election. I believe the current Labour Government have gone back on the promises they laid out in the lead up to the last election,’ the petition says,” as Patrick O’Flynn explained at The Spectator. “It’s that simple: the accusation is that Keir Starmer was elected on a deliberately false prospectus and that his administration therefore lacks basic democratic legitimacy.”
“Keir Starmer said he ‘wasn’t surprised’ that 2 million people had signed a petition calling for an election, adding ‘there will be plenty of people who didn’t want us in the first place,’”

“Voters’ Remorse? 2 Million Brits Sign Petition Calling for a New Election”
Hard to see why - the ‘conservatives’ there were simply could not give a shit as to the future of the UK, meaning that they were 90% as bad as Labor. The bottom line is that people of the UK have to STEP UP, probably for the first time in their lives (since most of their WW2 heroes have died off) and STICK IT to the ruling class there, by voting for Farage. And, if they cannot do so, they DESERVE the fate that awaits them (meaning that Bangladesh will be a shining light of prosperity, compared to what they will have to live under).
Brit voters want all the free stuff and woke thinking without having to pay for it.
Just like our demonrat voters.
Re: voting for Farage. +1000!
Make GB great again.
I hate to tell them, which I have, this petition is pointless. Nobody in Labour is asking for Kier to step down. He has their support and they knew it wouldn’t be popular with many. They don’t care.
His answer to this petition was, “millions didn’t vote for us so it’s no surprise they don’t like us now”. IOW...f*ck off.
Britian is not a free country...they imprison those that speak what the State doesn’t like. The whole EU is on this path.
20% of the registered electorate voted, but Labour was the party with the most critical mass to win the majority of seats under first past the post.
Labour actually got a lower share of the vote than Jeremy Corbyn did when he lost the previous election.
Right wing voters are divided between Tory loyalists and those who have defected to Reform. I suspect most of the remaining Tory voters did the usual trick of trying to keep out the lesser evil of Labour rather than taking a risk with a candidate they felt had no chance of winning.
