As many as 3 million New Yorkers may be fraudulently reaping taxpayer-funded Medicaid and other public health insurance benefits at a potential cost of $20 billion a year, a staggering new study claims.

About 5.5 million Empire State residents have incomes low enough to meet the standard eligibility limits for Medicaid or the Essential Plan, a related public health insurance program. But with expanded eligibility rules under Obamacare and an increased demand for a controversial homecare program, enrollment has swelled to 8.5 million, a potential surplus of 3 million.

Correction... It is NOT costing the State. It is COSTING ALL OF US. This is paid for by federal taxpayer’s dollars.

Property taxes are locally assessed and collected. The money primarily goes to schools, police and fire departments, and infrastructure.

Since I guessed correctly, what do I win?

When funding of any and all government programs are divorced from economic production and from individuals’ eligibility concerns, who is going to deny anyone of ‘their entitlements’?

Deficit spending is now normal. Economic production is no longer expected to pay for government spending.

Government spending is never expected to be done responsibly, so, anything goes and everyone gets their benefits, even if they never paid taxes.

For a, let’s say retired empty nest couple of two under 65, the cut off line is a prognosticated 2025 AGI of 51,100 (get out your crystal ball, folks).

If you make slightly under that, the “essential plan” kicks in; basically medicaid aka FREE healthcare, very little/no copays, no deductible. If you make one penny over then you are in the “marketplace” where you pay $1,500 monthly infamous “metal plan” premiums, get a sky high deductible, for essentially hospitalization only.

... The report says about 44% of state residents — including 60% of those in New York City — are covered by Medicaid or the Essential Plan, seven points above any other state....

And only seven (!) points higher than the norm. "Essential Care" also has zero premiums - same as Medicaid.

Very nearly half the population on full dole for something as basic as medical insurance?

There is something very, very seriously wrong with this situation.

Most welfare deadbeats use the ER and ambulance rides to it in lieu of their PCP for stuff like colds and sore throats.

And if they say they can’t afford the couple dollar co-pay, it’s waived.

The abuse of the system is horrific.

Fixing Medicaid, and SS disability fraud could probably yield more cost savings than firing half the federal work force.

Years back you could get various government benefits in different states and have the checks mailed to one address. Why? Because each state handles their own customer databases and back then the federal government didn’t simply take all 50+ states/territories/etc. and compare the social security number on all the accounts in all states. I’m not sure if this is still the case but I was a consultant back then on benefits fraud and it was everywhere, and the system wanted it that way.

I do not think, this is limited to NY.
Medicaid has been so expanded under Obama, that it is bankrupting the country. Free medical care! As free, it means it will be abused!
And abused it is!

It’s actually a combination of federal and state dollars, that’s true across the country. What you’re not hearing about as a couple programs that the feds are thinking of going ahead and approving that allows states to spend their own state Medicaid dollars on undocumented people. There’s a pilot program in New York somewhere.

The State of Colorado is about to start enrolling undocumented people into Medicaid, paid for with state Medicaid dollars. I don’t think the taxpayers of Colorado are aware. I imagine there are other states with liberal governors that are doing the same or about to.

If Trump wouldn’t have won, I believe the Democrats would’ve shortly allowed federal dollars to be spent on the undocumented. Right now if the state only spends their own Medicaid dollars then that’s up to the state, I think what’s missing is the news media not reporting it so most taxpayers are unaware.
