Germany is working on a ‘bunker plan’ including a smartphone app to direct citizens to the nearest shelter in case of an emergency, a report claims, after Russian President Putin said he reserved the right to bomb the allies of Ukraine.
The Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe — it really rolls off the tongue — better known as the BKK or the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance has embarked on a project to figure out where the country’s remaining bomb shelters are and how many are still fit for use. As well as now long-neglected facilities designed for the purpose officials will also be looking at the potential to convert subway stations, government buildings, and even private basements, a report in newspaper Bild asserts.

I’ve often heard Germans described as “lemming-like”. Honestly, I thought they had changed post-WWII, but.....apparently not.

So these morons will wait until doomsday comes to find a fallout shelter with their cell phone that will no longer work. Just about anything digital will not work if the Ruskies decide to EMP them.

1. The German government sees a Russian attack as a real possibility, and so is preparing the population.
2. The German government is waving something shiny in front of the people to distract them from Germany’s real problems.
Could be “1”. But more likely it’s “2”.

Awhile back I read an article about a small German town that was being forced to take in illegal immigrants. The number of illegals would be roughly half of the town’s population.
The local hotel and the community center would be requisitioned to house the illegals.
At a meeting to explain all this, not a single German resident objected, or even asked a question. They just sat there and listened to the government official.
Lemming-like? Kinda looks that way.

What’s so bad about this? It’s defensive. And partly about knowing what shelters are still viable.
Not that most all nations don’t have a war plan. Not that shocking.

Yes, Germans have largely become wimps. Sure seems like it.
However, the smartphone thing could work, it just might not be 100%. You take what you can get and let word of mouth do the rest. Again, you’re assuming a warning happens AFTER something has started. This could be emitted when there is real concern or warning that something is happening. So perhaps networks aren’t all out.
What do you think of our EBS all these years? Maybe not everyone is watching TV, or the electricty will be shot? How about that tidal wave for Hawaii some years back? All American.
Wait until they figure out how much in food and clothing and medical supplies will need to be put in the shelters.
I wonder how many flak towers are still around? Of course, underground would probably be best...

I suppose the reincarnated Nazi German government of 2024 regrets all of the bunkers it exploded and buried right after WW2 ended. Modern ground penetration bombs have made many existing bunkers obsolete and both sides have them.
It is a good thing that nobody in Russia knows how to use an smartphone app when planning missile attacks and bombing runs.....
So, the enemy will know where all the fallout shelters are? Holy cannoli.
