Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) pushed back against the idea that the Russian war in Ukraine could end in peaceful negotiation, saying those who hold that view “may be deceiving” themselves.
In a speech at the Halifax International Security Forum this weekend, Rounds called Russian President Vladimir Putin a “tyrant” and suggested he would be surprised if Putin were satisfied with any concession from the West.
“It’s time to take a hard look at this thing and really ask ourselves, do you believe that this tyrant, if you offer him a part of a free country, do you think he’s going to stop?” Rounds said. “Or do you think he’s going to look at that and say, ‘You see? We’re strength. We’re Russian strength.’”
“See, I think that’s what happens,” Rounds continued.
Rounds said the United States needs to stand by Ukraine and give the democratic country the agency to determine for itself the best path forward.

See, this is the problem the U.S. Senate full of people like him on both sides of the aisle and only a few good guys (you can count them on one hand)
Trump's landslide will hopefully break some of the resistance in the Senate but there's still so many RINOs even 53+ seats is not likely enough to get stuff done.
Someone will defect and make up the numbers... At the last minute... And they'll take turns doing it (musical chairs) with their 6 year terms.
It's so bad.
Hopefully Thune changes things but probably not.
He's been part of the problem for many years... !
Conceding territory will cause Zelensky to look like a failed president. We need to protect him from embarrassment by throwing another generation of young men into the meat grinder.
Mr. Thune could use some prayers.
Putin may not have much choice.
I suspect Trump is over this crap and he hasn’t even assumed office yet.
This odd concept that is so popular that if Russia is not smashed, then Russia will continue to march eastward because Russia so very much wants to have Europe.
The question is almost never asked . . . What does Europe have that Russia wants?
There is no oil south of Norway. And ditto natural gas. There’s no uranium anywhere in Europe. Besides which, Russia has plenty of uranium with Kazakhstan right next door.
What Europe does have is a great many violent Muslim refugees. Russia is essentially a Christian country. They have no desire to find themselves responsible for Muslim factions in Europe.
It’s sort of a critical question. Europe just doesn’t have anything that Russia doesn’t already have in tremendous abundance. So this presumption that they are leaning forward at their western border chomping at the bit to find themselves dealing with Northern African people with almost no education and they’re only skill set is the ability to burn cars.
Personally, I’m pretty confident that Russia doesn’t want that. Who would?
Oops, westward
Caught that! Thank you for your comments…. Well thought and reasoned.
“The question is almost never asked . . . What does Europe have that Russia wants?”
Excellent, that excuse was pure ignorant BS from the start. He never was out to take over the world.
A belligerent Russia should always be rewarded.

Because he is on the Armed Forces Committee. Nothing short of the full unconditional surrender of Russia will do for them.
President Trump doesn't need anything from the Senate on Ukraine. They can vote all the aid they want for Ukraine and President Trump can veto it. They will not have enough votes to override the veto.
Once the aid from the US dries up Ukraine will be forced to negotiate. Why Zelensky isn't talking to Russia right now is beyond me. Would you take a chance that your Military aid has dried up and you are now negotiating from a position of extreme weakness?
There are plenty of things President Trump can do to get these parties into a ceasefire and then into a settlement that would bypass the Senate completely.
As for the rest of President Trump's agenda it was always going to be a fight to get it through congress. There are razor thin margins in both houses. But for some of that Agenda I could see some Democrats crossing over. I would not want to be the Senator or Congressman who voted against Tips not counting as income for tax purposes.
Yes. And some testicles. Not to mention brains and a conscience.
Better get to praying...
The Ukraine is hardly *the good guys*.
Hope he’s got a few kids of military age to enlist, block some bullets for ours.
Then he can go volunteer himself.
Yup another guy who gets a thrill from going to the zoo and pinching a lion through the fence to feel big.
Listen to Pooty’s own words. He regards Europe as a threat. He’s sort of correct - creeping Westernization as occurred in much of Ukraine over the decades would create just the sort of fundamental changes in Russia that Russian leadership (not just Pooty) would not survive. Of course, he doesn’t speak much about that — he fabricates a NATO military threat, which he may actually believe, given Russian paranoia. Never mind that the Euros lacking severe threat to themselves would never spend the money. This isn’t about Central and Western European natural resources. In that we agree. (It is somewhat about keeping competitive UKRAINAIN resources off the market, but that’s a whole ‘nother topic.)
In the very long run, those Muslims you spoke of could also be a major threat. I doubt Russia would want to incorporate them. It probably would just kill them or (more practical) push them into Western Europe and create Central Europe as a buffer zone, something like the old USSR
Unfortunately, in the bigger picture it is irrelevant whether Ukraine are “the good guys”.
If Pooty comes out of this with a perceived “win”, he will have shown that nuclear blackmail works. Soon enough, Stephen Hawking will be proven correct and Elon is probably right to try to get a few of us off this planet...
BINGO!! BOTH MEN ARE EVIL!!
