ome years ago, I heard that Matt Gaetz had been accused of having sex with an underage girl. Much later, I understood that the claim had turned out to be false and had been dropped. But now, following Gaetz’s nomination as Attorney General, it has reappeared in the guise of a House Ethics Committee investigation and attendant newspaper leaks.
Headlines have been full of salacious references to sex with a 17-year-old. I wondered why that was ever a matter for criminal investigation, since in most states 17 would be above the age of consent. But the age of consent is 18 in Florida, where I take the incident supposedly occurred.
So, how credible is the accusation? Mollie Hemingway has the most detailed explanation of the facts that I have seen, and the answer is: not credible at all.
The source of the allegation is a jailbird named Joel Greenberg:
The claims arose from Joel Greenberg, “one of the most corrupt Florida politicians of all time,” according to Florida reporter Marc Caputo, who is now with the anti-Trump media outlet The Bulwark.
Among many things the former Seminole County tax collector admitted to as part of a wide-ranging case for which he is currently serving 11 years in prison was falsely accusing local political opponent Brian Beute of having sex with a minor, similar to the outlandish claim he made against Gaetz. Greenberg also reportedly later attempted to frame his own attorney with pornographic images of children. …
According to the Washington Post, Greenberg admitted to “fabricating allegations against a schoolteacher who was running against him to be a tax collector. Greenberg had sent letters to the school falsely claiming the teacher had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student — a similar allegation to the Gaetz case.” U.S. District Judge Gregory Presnell, appointed by President Bill Clinton, said Greenberg’s actions against that innocent victim were “downright evil.”
We don’t know the identity of the woman, who of course is now of age. But she apparently is a prostitute, and it was Greenberg, not Gaetz, who was sleeping with her.
Kevin McCarthy repeats it as fact every chance he gets. McCarthy is slime.

McCarthy refused to defend Gaetz when these bogus charges were first made, and Gaetz never forgot that.
McCarthy deserved to be ousted given how he let an entire summer pass by before letting the debt ceiling become a crisis. Then he reneged on his promise to give the Republicans 72 hours to review bills before voting on them, a crisis of his making that could have been avoided. I'm sure it was icing on the cake that McCarthy gave Gaetz the legitimate reason he needed to start the process.
In hindsight, we dodged a bullet with McCarthy when he admitted that he and Nancy Pelosi had an understanding that she would "have his back" if things got tough. Everyone but McCarthy, apparently, knew that Pelosi was a back-stabber and was just stringing McCarthy along until he was no longer useful to her. She didn't have McCarthy's back to save his Speakership.

I saw a some of ABC “news” channel today they ran an interview with the woman’s lawyer saying all the details. Within a half hour they ran it 4 times. I hope they have a strategy to counter this because they pulling out all of the stops to destroy Gaetz.

These allegations are Kafkaesque absurd. Trump is going to stick by Gaetz, especially in light of his own persecution over false allegation from that sicko E. Jean Carroll.
His only strategy is to stand by Gaetz and utterly destroy the entire #MeToo hypocrisy along the way. Trump too is a victim of this, and should also lash out against the lawfare that handed the psychopath Carroll a "sexual assault" conviction and an $88 million judgment.

Merrick Garland hates Gaetz. If there were and evidence against him, they would have prosecuted.

As I said a few days earlier. I think Trump appointed Gaetz to get him out of Congress, since the vast majority of Republicans dont support Gaetz’s drama-queen moments.
Gaetz is now out of the House and Trump got what he wanted: a more stable Republican House.
Trump is a true 4D chess player.
