Coming into office next year, Donald Trump will face massive budget deficits of $2 trillion a year and rising. Trump and every member of Congress now know that excessive deficits and spending can spike inflation, which is very unpopular with voters. The president and his budget team must find spending cuts to tackle the deficit monster.
a However, Trump wants tax cuts, which would increase deficits. He also doesn’t want to cut Social Security or Medicare, and he may increase defense spending. Those are the three largest programs

So like tarp, they say it is a onetime budget increase, but then don’t balance the budget so they get the same amount +- small percentage without having to account for “wait that was a one time thing”.
Trump could say, hey let’s start over at 2009 pre tarp level, account for normal increases, and then that should be the starting point of the current budget. Of course, congress will do as it pleases.
Undo everything Biden and the Democrats did between 2020 and 2021.
Sorry 2021-2022
It is what Biden did per se. It is the house that controls with senate input. They have no motivation to create a budget when they last year’s plus some.
I first noticed this with Tarp. Note with Covid. The 3.15 trillion for Covid is stuck in the budget until they approve one. Now it gets reallocated every year and they just use it for whatever. By 2030, that will be close to 50 trillion.
Had Covid not occurred and they not allocated the 3.15, then without a budget they would have less to spend.
The US has base-line budgeting —every department receives an 8% raise each year...
It’s called “baseline budgeting.” What they spent last year is the baseline for this year’s budget… then add some for inflation.
#1 End this practice.
#2 Get back to actual budgeting IAW the Constitution.
#3 Make every department justify their every line item.
JFK cut taxes dramatically
Government revenue increased DRAMATICALLY
There is no vacuum. Productivity increases when entrepreneurs have more money and get to keep more of what they earn
I have a consulting business and I do asbestos surveys as one of my services.
The EPA NESHAP reguires an asbestos inspection before demolition or renovation
I have done a lot of surveys on buildings and retail spaces since Trump was elected. They are being re-occupied. Optimism is rampant
Trump also needs the line item veto
Congress hates this because they can’t sneak their “little” projects into bills. With bills being hundreds of pages long, it’s easy to slip these through
Yes cut out the federal dep of ed, and reduce income taxes equally. The states can do the job tghemselves and if they want to raise state taxes for it at least we’ve returned the money to their people with lower taxes.
Yes, cut out aid for “urban transit”, it is not even needed by all states and those states that insist on doing it can do it themselves, but before they do they need to try privatising any system they have that is run by a government agency. And yes, we should sell off Amtrak, line by line. Some lines will not get buyers because there is no way for them to be profitable (too few riders over too much distance). Again, meet those federal spending reductions with equal reduction of income taxes.
Yes, wipe out all the “green” subsidies and “green” government spending. Lower taxes commensurately.
Same thing with broadband.
When HUD was created, in 1967, it was promised that it would improve home ownership in America. In 1967 the home ownership rate was about 64%, and how many trillion$ later spent by HUD and subsidized through several federal housing agencies and in our time homw the ownership rate is .................. about 64% . No government in the world outside of China has tried so hard and gotten so little trying to meddle in the housing market. If anything the meddling has been part of the rise in housing prices which has often exceeded the inflation rate. [Just like college tuition]. Yes wipe out HUD, sell off Freddie and Fannie, get rid of FHA and the others. And return any federal spending reduction in lower taxes.
The farm lobby has made touching farm subsidies one of the 3rd rails of American politics. It should be done but be careful, you might get burnt in four years.
Change how medicaid is funded. How it is funded encourages states to expand the program or make it more generous than some other states. How? The federal government pays 50% of the cost per medicaid recipient, no matter how the state runs the program in the state and no matter any state by state medical cost differences. They first need to determine what the median cost per recipient is accross all the states. Then the federal government should never pay more than 50% of that median cost. States that make more generous medicaid benefits or have higher health care costs will have to subsidize on their own their portion above the national median.
Wrong. BB is political. If you "give" high speed internet access to the vast red areas of the USA that will empower them and cause a political shift away for cities and to rural areas. Lefties want us rubes in the hills kept in the dark.
The big problem in the country is not the budget per se, it is the GOPe/uniparty that has caused this growing tragedy in the first place for two decades. What a mess.
Look at a govt spending pie chart. The behemoth portion that is killing us is entitlements. Nobody wants to cut that because people scream when you mention it. Including many on this site every day.
We need Musk and Vivek to do their slashing, but it’s only going to be cosmetic compared to the real problem.
Effective tomorrow morning, all federal agencies, with the exception of Social Security and the military, will have their budgets cut by 10%. I expect each agency to provide the same, or better, service after the cuts. If you cannot do this, you will be replaced by someone who can. Have a nice day.
Wrong.
We WANT a smaller federal government, not to keep it big and use it like the Dims do as the tool to make people do what you want them to do. Rural areas can now get cell phone service by satellite, so there is no reason to subsidize than land based telecoms.
They would pay for it, it wasn't going to be free. I guess you think the electrifician of rural USA in the 1930s was stupid too. Moron.
Entire departments have to be eliminated to prevent regrowth. As the existing departments get moved throughout the country many will quit rather than move. Pick cities they want no part of.
It’s JFK’s late brudder Teddy that gave us base line budgeting...
I agree. We want a smaller federal government. not to just move it around.
“They would pay for it, it wasn’t going to be free. I guess you think the electrifician of rural USA in the 1930s was stupid too..
Yes it was stupid. It meant many advancements in local power generation would not come till generations later. Necessity is the mother of invention.
I’ll let your weapons grade stupidity stand on it’s own.
