VIENNA (AP) – Russia’s state-owned natural gas company Gazprom stopped supplies to Austria early Saturday, according to the Vienna-based utility OMV after it said it would stop payments for the gas following an arbitration award.
The official cutoff of supplies before dawn Saturday came after Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer on Friday held a hastily called news conference to emphasize his country has a secure supply of alternative fuel for this winter.

Take THAT, Putin!!!
We’re not going to pay!
OK, no gas for you.
Going down the road like Germany whose manufacturing industry totally collapsed. Maybe the people will finally revolt against their brain dead politicians?
Fact is Russia has much of what the EU needs. When the war ends, the EU will go groveling back to Vlad for his energy and commodities.
;^)
Merkel the Russian Spy set up Europe ,LOL
Here’s a question:
Does “the West” have sufficient reliably available uranium to supply a greatly ramped up nuclear power program (which makes huge sense)?
One place that does have large reserves is Ukraine.
2 + 2 .....
“Merkel the Russian Spy set up Europe ,LOL”
Merkel didn’t blow up the pipeline (Biden did), and Merkel didn’t take Gazprom to court and win (Austria did, and it was a relatively tiny amount of money, maybe $250M).
Not a smart move to sue them and accept the judgement, especially not in November. Also interesting that none of these problem ever emerged regarding the Nordstream Pipeline (obviously, recent events excluded), which is direct from Russia to Germany, rather than flowing through Ukraine (hmmm).
The lawsuit was because Russia stopped German gas deliveries when they refused to pay in 2022. The Germans and this Austrian company called that gas blackmail. They thought Russia should keep sending gas even though they refuse to pay.
Wrong!
They're doing it now! Good old Olaf Scholz is already trying to schmooze Putin with these "Hey bro, how you doin'?" phone calls.
Incredible.
“..Fact is Russia has much of what the EU needs...”
Yes! and visa versa - Russia needs trade pardners. And if there is ever going to be peace in that part of the world it will come from supplying one another’s needs through fair trade.
Great question.
We still buy uranium from Russia AFAIK.
Everyone fell for the EU/MSM coverup for why Russia took action on Ukraine
The EU has been using Ukraine to steal gas and refusing to pay what is owed
The "War in Ukraine" is Russia's attempt to stop the theft and recover some of what is owed,
The War in Ukraine is not "crazy Putin" trying to bully Ukraine and take over the world as we have been forced to believe by the western propaganda
Its ok, the krauts have wind generators and solar panels.
Hard to say. News reports seem about split as to whether it was Ukraine who said “no”, or Russia. Even pro-Russia sources are split amongst themselves, and pro-Ukraine sources even more so. In any event, alternate supplies are available, though some of that is pricey LNG. With Trump coming into office, LNG supplies should eventually increase considerably, tho’ that will only help partially with prices. Pols in Europe have been fairly successful in blaming a lot of the higher energy costs on Pooty. A lot of the blame falls on the Greenies too, but, since it’s been revealed that Pooty’s been funding a lot of the Green movement in Europe, some of that ire gets re-directed at Russia, too.
A wild card is the weather and the Houthis and the overall situation in the MidEast. Until the USA gets ramped up, LNG supply is constrained by the km-(meter^3) capacity of the LNG fleet. Ie., the maximum volume delivery possible is reduced when the LNG tankers have to go around South Africa. This could come into play in an unusually cold winter. It’s doubtful Euros would “freeze”, but, prices would certainly jump, probably even having some impact here in the US, if Trump loosens up export limitations. Pressure to deal with the Houthis in a determined fashion might increase...
Also, if I was a Euro pol favoring Ukraine, I’d make a big deal about Ukraine’s mostly undeveloped (and many taken control of by Russia) energy resources being an essential part of Europe’s future.
Lots of angles to play out...
Gazprom is nearly bankrupt. I don’t think it could send natural gas if it wanted to.
“Going down the road like Germany whose manufacturing industry totally collapsed. “
More lies from the Armstrong pimp!
