Advance Auto Parts is closing more than 700 locations

New York CNN —

Advance Auto Parts is closing more than 700 locations to shore up the company’s finances following another dismal earnings report.

The car parts retailer, which has about 5,000 stores, said Thursday that the closures are part of its “strategic plan to improve business performance.” Advance Auto Parts (AAP) shares slid nearly 5% in premarket trading after it reported earnings that missed analysts’ expectations.

The reduction will result in closing roughly 500 corporate-owned stores plus about 200 independently operated locations. The company did not immediately provide a full list of locations set to close.

But the economy under Biden has been so great. Isn't that what CNN has been telling us?

My first thought is “now the kids that don’t know anything, will have to find another job.”

Another Chinese store front. Keep your car long enough all the spare parts are Chinese.

RockAuto.com has been slamming the crap out of brick and mortar stores the last few years.

I suspect that is the fait of many brick and mortar businesses.

I occasionally frequent a local Advance Auto for minor parts or spur of the moment repairs.

For any planned maintenance, I order everything online from various alternative sources.

I hope my local advance auto does not close. they have a bunch of 20+ year employees and a full machine shop

they also actually have parts for my cars unlike shucks/O’reilly’s and autozone

Absolutely. If I need something immediately, it’s O’Reilly’s. With an extra vehicle, that is rare. Otherwise, it’s RockAuto.

however we parse it, closing 700 stores is a major economic loss

I have six vehicles. Mostly antiques. Advance is closest to my house, so I often visit them first. They almost never have what I want in stock. O’Reily’s often does.

I suspect that O’Reily’s has a method of predicting what people want, probably based on what they sell most often at any given location. (A perfect use for data mining or AI.) Advance doesn’t.

Well once O'Reilly's got these on shelf Advance Auto never stood a chance.

Trump will have to tell citizens that our financial state is grim. I have maintained he will manage our decline with our citizens best interests in mind.

The average six pack Joe has no idea how close we are to financial collapse. Serious measures are needed.

Advance has always been a hot mess and a shit stock, while AutoZone and O’Reilly print money. Must be terrible management.

Easy to see why. Cars used to be easy to work on. I have rebuilt engines at home with no problems. Now I can’t even find the battery in them anymore. Way too technical for me now days.

I realize that there many people who buy into the DEI crap, but most managers and business owners understand that you don’t make progress by pissing off your best employees and hiring idiots...much less all of them doing it at the same time.

So what gives? I don’t know, but I strongly suspect that there is mafia-style pressure on these companies giving them ‘an offer they best not refuse’ - and that offer being to be left alone, rather than end up front-and-center in the crosshairs of the DOJ. Something is definitely going on that we, on the outside, simply don’t see.
