MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Several business owners at the struggling corner where George Floyd was murdered by a Minneapolis police officer in 2020 are suing the city to demand it take over their properties and compensate them.
The owners of the Cup Foods convenience store and other businesses operating near 38th Street and Chicago Avenue argue that the city’s failure to address deterioration and crime in the neighborhood has ruined their businesses and constitutes an unlawful taking of their property without just compensation, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported Thursday. They’re seeking $30 million in damages.
The area, now known as George Floyd Square, has become a place of pilgrimage for social justice supporters from across the country, and the store has renamed itself Unity Foods. But business owners say they haven’t benefitted, while activists and officials remain divided over how to transform the intersection while keeping it as a permanent memorial.
The legal action, filed last week in Hennepin County District Court, argues that the businesses have lost revenue, real estate value, reputation, and tenant and rental income. It argues that the city’s decisions led to higher crime and created a “no go zone” for police in the area. It replaces an earlier lawsuit by the businesses that was dismissed two months ago.

Minnesota Agape Movement
Minnesota Agape Movement is a non-profit in Minneapolis with a headquarters office on the 3700 block of Chicago Avenue.[citation needed] The organization has contracts with the city to improve health and safety and build community in the area, often taking over functions that police might otherwise handle. The organization was formed shortly after the murder of George Floyd by members including Steve Floyd (no relation to George Floyd), a longtime street outreach worker for the area. Members of Agape were involved with putting up the barricades around George Floyd Square in May 2020 and Agape led the effort to reopen the square in June 2021.[48]
Is THAT what they're calling the place where you meet your drug dealer for a fix?
That headline gave me a tumor.
Sounds like the stories of run down Olympic game areas that got a great influx of traffic and activity, but when all the $$$ and cameras and the world leaves, they just go to pot..

People need to keep reminding people that the trial was a farce, and that judge and those jurors should take Chauvin's place in prison.
He wasn’t murdered!
First of all, ST. Floyd of Fentanyl wasn't murdered. He killed himself with an overdose of fentanyl. I still can't believe this officer is serving time when the autopsy said, "Death by overdose".
Secondly, the officer did not have his knee on Floyd's neck, he had it on his upper shoulder to restrain his violence.
Thirdly, Floyd was already claiming he couldn't breathe when in the patrol car. The cops called EMT's and let him out and he went ballistic against the police.
Lastly, working Shore Patrol for 3 years I was taught various holds and restraints. We were not allowed real choke holds nor pressure to the neck. I know of what I say.
Fuck Floyd and his money-grubbing relatives. He was a bad bad man and died from his own choices. Yet, many Majors allowed the senseless vandalism, looting, arson, etc. around the country.

Yes, I did and it was one of the worst if not THE worse. Isn't that Harris buttboy territory as Governor? He just stood by while the crazies were burning down the cities.
