Despite this car being three years older, Carrion’s monthly payment went up to $406 from $163 due to the increase in used-car prices since the pandemic and rising interest rates over the past two years.

Buying a new vehicle in USA is like getting robbed at gunpoint. Buying new is simply a major rip-off.
Yes, its an option. I have considered "self-insuring" and paying for medical tourism. But then the state penalizes you for not having their Obamacare insurance.
Its not the cost of the car, its the cost of the financing. A $15k loan over 5 years at 20% interest is about $400 per month.
She did not fiance it over 3 years because the payment would not cover the cost without zero interest.

That's one part of it for sure, then add in the pollution controls, catalytic converter, safety stuff, union wages, government regulations. I really don't care if my car has tire inflation sensors at $200 apiece, sheesh.
