Starmer pledges £200m to offshore wind companies to build factories in oil and gas zones
The Telegraph ^ | 11 November 2024 | Emma Gatten, Genevieve Holl-Allen

Keir Starmer is to hand up to £200 million to offshore wind companies to build factories in traditional oil and gas areas, he will announce at the COP29 climate change summit on Tuesday.

Wind farms will be eligible for tens of millions to establish factories building turbine blades, cables and ports under the Government’s new “clean industry bonus”.

The Government has insisted that its push for clean energy will benefit the public with new jobs, and promised that oil and gas communities would not be left behind in the transition.

Sir Keir will be one of only two G7 leaders to appear at the summit, as he seeks to send a signal that the UK will continue to push for climate action, despite the incoming Trump administration.

Donald Trump has vowed to take the US out of the Paris agreement on limiting emissions and dismissed the need for action on climate change.

Sir Keir said on Monday: “I have travelled to the COP29 summit in Baku to harness international co-operation in order to protect our country’s security and prosperity.”

The summit takes place as the UN warns that 2024 will be the hottest year on record, breaking the threshold of 1.5C above pre-industrial temperatures for the first time.

Sir Keir will announce a new target for the UK to cut its emissions by 2035, weeks after the Government’s advisers called for an 81 per cent drop on 1990 levels.

He’s a real dead-ender this pos starmer. Like Canada, the UK has a complicated system which keeps these awful globalists in power. Also a lot of idiot hard left voters.

I hope it is part of 45-47’s agenda to promote extreme nationalism world wide. Pressure the leftist tyrants macron, starmer and turd-deau until they fall. I can hear Louis Armstrong a-singing now.

I like this. As other countries waste money on this stuff, the U.S. will be more competitive by simply ignoring all of it. The use of natural gas, oil, and nuclear will give us a significant advantage.

If the US continues to innovate, the EU (and the UK) will stagnate and they will realize that they will have to adjust their economic policy to remain competitive.

The Soviet Union ended up collapsing due to their crappy economy.

this is a small Aussie town of 19,000. they have a massive wind farm, which allegedly could supply 100,000+ homes, a solar farm and gigantic battery.
a storm just knocked out the power for days:

Average Cost of electrricity in the UK is 40 cents per kilowatt hour. Average cost of electricity in the USA is 16 cents per kilowatt hour. Windmills for electricity suck.

At the same time, he is arranging two build numerous “interconnectors” with other countries to provide energy when the UK’s wind and solar fields are hit by a dunkelflaute as they were last weekend, when energy production was about zero. The insanity continues.
