California air quality regulators late Friday approved tougher rules to encourage use of lower-carbon fuels, overriding objections that the action would lead to higher gasoline prices for motorists.
On a 12-to-2 vote, the California Air Resources Board approved amendments to the state’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard, or LCFS, which aims to shift California’s fuel dependence away from gasoline and toward lower-carbon fuels such as biodiesel, hydrogen and electricity.
"...the 14 voting members on CARB’s board, 12 were appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom..."
California Air Resources Board staffers estimated last year that the new rules could raise the price of a gallon of gas by as much as 47 cents next year. By 2040, the added cost to the price per gallon could be $1.80, staff members estimated in their 2023 document.
Since then, and again Friday, CARB officials asserted that those estimates were flawed and that they no longer believe the action will boost gas prices.
“Any claims that LCFS is responsible for high gas prices is misleading at best and not supported by the data,” Dillon Miner, CARB’s staff air pollution specialist, told the packed auditorium in Riverside on Friday.

Who voted for these regulators.
I think this will finally get Noisome the recall he so rightly deserves an maybe the last nail in the coffin of his potus dream.

California legislature loves this!
They get what they want by having unelected individuals do it for them! No blowback for the members of the legislature on election day! Heck, they can even campaign against it!
Heck, why stop at $1.80
> opponents said it will trigger higher gas prices <
That’s certainly the idea. Get rid of your gasoline-powered car, and buy an EV. Drive around in that until California electricity becomes too expensive or even unavailable at any price.
Then apply for a bus pass. Shut up and take your seat.
Onward the Revolution!
I am glad I am retired now, not commuting to three schools (I was an itinerant) and filling up my gas tank 2X/week.
I just returned from Colorado where gas is ≈ $2.93/gallon - returned home (California) to $4.69 - and that is about to go up well over $5.00/gallon.
Who voted on this? A panel of non-elected idiots appointed by Gavin Newsom.
But then what does he care? He is driven around in THREE limos - his, then one in front, one in back - and his gas is paid for by the taxpayers of the state of California.
Gruesome Newsome is a complete nightmare.
Gavin Newsom’s investigation of why gas prices are so high in the state of California is over - he figured it out - according to him, it is price gouging by the oil companies.
Those same oil companies that don’t seem to gouge in 28 other states where gas is under $3.00/gallon.
It’s actually worse for Californians by comparison. Chatgpt says the average price for regular gas in CA is $4.29. I just filled up yesterday in OH for $2.55. Oh well, I wouldn’t fit in with CA anyway: I’m overweight, conservative, and don’t like avocados.
Its what happens in one-party dictatorships.
This is a big reason for me moving to a new country next year. I have found some pretty nice and friendly places in a nearby Country that we are seriously looking at. It is a place called Texas and it’s in AMERICA.
I’ll just pay it. Retired. That’s why. That is a battle for those that can’t afford it just like women when it comes to men in their bathrooms. They got my vote but those affected need to do the heavy lifting.
I’m still in California. Unlike others I’ll stay and fight even if we feel like Custer at the Little Big Horn.
Prices are falling so it’s time for government to price gouge
Why is this guy smiling , well he’s a moron
Not *can*.
*Will*
Because as with all dictators, he revels in human misery and knowing he caused it.
But his day is coming and when he answers to God, that’ll wipe the smirk off his face.
