I am curious. Is Trump really “surging” or has he always been ahead? The garbage polls of August, September and early October made it appear Harris was winning. But as the polls cleanup their act so they do not look stupid after Nov 5, the Harris lead went away.

IMHO, Harris has never had a lead outside the margin of error in any polling. Even now her 49-49% BS is a way for polls to cover their ass. Say Trump wins by 1.5% in a battleground State. If the margin of error in a garbage poll is plus or minus 2% the poll will claim it was accurate because Trump’s win was within the margin of error. Or vice versa.
