Joe Rogan said he previously warned Tony Hinchcliffe about his Puerto Rico joke, telling him “that’s the one that’s gonna get you stabbed.”
Hinchcliffe, an insult comic best known for hosting the live podcast “Kill Tony,” sparked outrage Sunday when he appeared at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally and told a joke that referred to Puerto Rico as “a floating island of garbage.”
“I’ve gotta tell you, that joke kills at comedy clubs. I don’t like the joke, [but] it kills,” Rogan said on Wednesday’s episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience.” “It’s just like, if you’re Puerto Rican and you hear that in the audience, you’re like [groans]. But it’s a funny joke. The joke does well. But I said to him, I go, ‘Dude, that’s the one that’s gonna get you stabbed.’ And he used to talk about it on stage, saying, ‘Joe Rogan always says that’s the one that’s gonna get me stabbed.'”
Rogan added that political rallies are “a bad environment for comedy,” and if he had sat down with Hinchcliffe before his appearance, he would have told him, “Don’t you **** dare do that joke.”
“I didn’t know what bits he was going to do, but then I heard he did that joke, and I was like, ‘Oh, Tony. Here it comes,'” Rogan said.
Hinchcliffe’s joke was not well-received, and it drove several high-profile Puerto Rican artists, including Bad Bunny and Jennifer Lopez, to show public support for Kamala Harris. Puerto Rican reggaeton star Nicky Jam, who previously appeared at a Trump rally, renounced his endorsement of the former president. Following the media firestorm, Trump’s campaign distanced itself from the joke.
“I think it’ll blow over, just like all these things do,” Rogan said. “There’s people that are always going to hate someone like Tony, and it’s going to make other people love him more. It’s just like, he’s going through it right now. He’s going through the storm.”
Rogan — who, like Hinchcliffe, is based in Austin, Texas — also noted the advice he often gives to fellow comics.
“I tell all comedians, ‘Don’t ever do comedy at something that’s not a comedy event.’ … Is it going to have a bunch of speakers, and you’re going to go up and do 10 minutes? Don’t ever do that. It’s a terrible setup,” Rogan said. “And it’s a political rally, and you’re doing jokes like you’re in a comedy club. Don’t do it!”
Rogan came to Hinchcliffe’s defense by calling out people like Barack Obama who have quoted the joke “like it was a statement,” which Rogan said “is really **** up.”
“You know that’s a joke,” Rogan said. “That’s like going to a Quentin Tarantino movie [and saying], ‘And then the man killed that woman.’ Like, he didn’t really kill that woman … this is a movie.”
Rogan added that he believes Hinchcliffe will “get through it” and will “come back better.”

“and it drove several high-profile Puerto Rican artists, including Bad Bunny and Jennifer Lopez, to show public support for Kamala Harris. “
As if the Bunny guy and Jennifer Lopez had fully planned to vote for Trump before the joke. 🙄
God works in mysterious way: that joke by a comedian has led a sitting president calling half of his population who are supporting the opponent ‘garbage’.
The media now regrets keeping the issue afloat...
Democrats always overplay their hand.
It was a stupid remark from an unfunny comedian but it enabled Biden to step on his d*** again and Trump got the endorsement of the PR shadow Senator the next day.
PR shadow Senator?
Zoraida Buxo
so the idiot was specifically warned about that “joke” and did it anyway
He was a Rat plant. I wonder how much the FBI paid him?
The flap is all the rage at the comment sections of all the usual suspects (CNN, etc.)
What I’ve told them:

Such foolish people!
You get upset because some crude-ass comedian (almost all of them are these days!) that Trump didn’t even know about makes a stupid joke that offends your 0.000001” thick skin, and meanwhile Trump correctly points out that his energy policies would have cut off Putin at the knees and hugely enriched the USA. Instead we have North Korean troops going in to Russia to help fight Ukraine, escalating a hugely dangerous situation even more, the whole security order in Europe could blow up into a major war or worse, and you get offended by an insensitive joke by a nobody instead of the good possibility that your sons and daughters (or, YOU if you are young) could end up dying in a god-forsaken war in Europe because at some point, the US would HAVE to intervene.
Well, which the hell is more important?
Thing is, all those articles and so forth in the era of the Internet are still out there and can’t be pulled back.
That provides the perfect opportunity to draw on their own platforms the difference between what really counts (war, inflation, etc.) and faux outrage about a stupid, crude joke by a nobody.
PR shadow Senator?
*****************
Puerto Rico’s Senator is called a shadow cause PR is not a state and he/she cannot vote in congressional affairs. Just like DC’s.
Good grief, so many people getting all butt-hurt over a joke.
Grow up, you whiners!
Rogan’s right. The joke was not funny, Hinchcliffe knew not to say it and said it anyway. Fortunately for Trump, the Democrats instinctively overreacted allowing him to turn it back on them. Trump’s ability to recovery from it doesn’t make what Hinchcliffe said any less stupid.
Trump claims to not know Hinchcliffe or what he said and the Trump Campaign threw him under the bus.
The sick irony is that Biden made the whole situation worse and really disastrous for Kamala by calling all Trumps supporters “garbage”. That is still going.
Anyone know when the Vance - Rogan podcast will drop?
Actually for those who know the garbage situation in Puerto Rico it is rather funny. But of course the demonic Democrats never miss an opportunity to turn the outrage dial up to 11. That being said, who was the idiot that booked an insult comedian for a political rally? This was definitely an own goal.
